Pool Fences in Gilbert

Hi Moms & Dads,
We are buying a new home with a pool. It does not have a fence and would like to get some reccommendations. I have read a lot of reviews for both the mesh and iron fences and I am leaning toward the mesh. Sounds like they may be just as safe if not safer and less expensive. Any thoughts, opinions, reccommendations and possible ballpark prices? Thanks for your help.

What can I do next?

We have had both an iron pool fence and a mesh pool fence. We currently have the mesh (installed by baby guard) and LOVE it. In my opinion, it is safer than an iron fence because it is either open or closed. You don't have to worry about the gate/latch catching like you do with the iron fence and it takes a lot more for little hands to open the mesh fence than an iron fence (it takes 2 adult hands to open the mesh fence and only 1 for the iron). The other great thing about the mesh fence is that it is completely removable once your children can swim. Also, the mesh fence can withstand up to 2 tons of force, so there is no worry about your kiddos knocking it down and it would be very difficult for your little ones to climb/scale. I think the mesh fence is worth the investment (I will never have an iron pool fence again) and I highly recommend using baby guard. Good luck!

I prefer metal pool fences to mesh. They're sturdier and just safer, in my opinion. A friend of mine has a mesh pool fence that now has a complete rip in it because a palm frond landed on it when their trees were being trimmed. If it can be damaged that easily, I would see it getting damaged all the time during monsoon.

I'm not sure what ages your children are - but mine are 2, 3, and 5 so when we moved into a house with a pool we looked very carefully into pool safety. Knowing how many times I've read in the news "the fence was locked and they don't know how the kid got in" we wanted something more than a fence. We ended up with a locked fence and a net from Katchakid. It is wonderful! Sure, it's not as convenient to swim because you have to remove the net and put it back on, but it's well worth the safety of our children and our peace of mind. I have absolute faith in the safety (as long as the adults put it on every time). It was about $1450 (they gave us a discount when we hemmed and hawed and said we'd call them) but if you have a smaller/simpler pool, it would be cheaper I think.
I know we got our metal fence for $750, but it's starting to rust, so I'd probably pay more for it if you can afford to (I know moving in a new house is expensive!). Anyways, good luck and safe swimming!

I agree with all that Jessica said. We got our Baby Guard when my twelve-year-old grandson was born and it is pretty much maintainence free. (Sometimes you have to flush debris out of the holes that the gate poles fit into.) You will hardly notice it once it is installed - we got green - and it is obvious when it isn't closed properly. One old arthritic person can open and close it (me), but it takes more dexterity and strength than a child has.

Hi Brandy, I have had both the metal and mesh. My current home has the mesh, which is a rental and WE paid to have it put in. I actually like the Iron better, but it is more expensive. The landlord agreed with the mesh since we can take it with us when we move. It cost about $1800. I believe I got it thru AZ Babyproofers and I shopped around. We have had it for 3 years and have not had a problem at all. By the way, I'm an insurance agent and believe if you have a pool, you should have it fenced forever, not just until the kids are "old enough" to swim. It also protects your property from other people coming in and swimming while you are not there. You think that doesn't happen, but it does! :o) Also, when you get a homeowners policy, ask you agent to quote you with 1 mil liability, it should only be about $40 more per year and is really worth it. Good luck and let me know if I can help with anything else.

I have mesh fence and it is GREAT and also a Katchkid that is used for additional security in the off season. Take a look at Craigslist...when people are moving or the kids have grown up you can get a mesh fence and even a metal one for a reasonable price and then you just have to pay to have it installed. It can save you 1/2 the price.
