Everyone I've ever known with a tubal has had moderate to massive side effects from it (and from working in a women's clinic I've 'known' hundreds of women with tubals, in addition to my mum and other family members). The dr.s in my clinic (world class hospital), all strongly advised against tubals... but one of their great frustrations is the lack of treatment options, medical or natural. From talking with them, the medical community at large is only JUST becoming willing to look into tubal side effects... so it'll probably be a good 20 years before it's common knowledge.

Unfortunately, the treatments I know of are all medical in nature... and I should repeat these are NOT linked via actual studies & peer review as yet, and to the best of my knowledge. Merely case studies.

- antidepressants/ antipsychotics/ mood stabilizers ((for the hormonally induced depressions, rages, and other mental health side effects))

- beta blockers ((for the cardiovascular / high blood pressure side effects

- ablations (( aka cauterizing the uterus.. for the extremely heavy periods))

Hi R. - I have heard of this, and like a previous poster said, it is almost always brushed off by doctors but is gaining attention and traction in society regardless. I had a TL in 2007 and have regretted it deeply; I have been researching a reversal or IVF in the hopes of having another child. Through this research I've learned that many women reverse their TL not to have kids again, but to get rid of PTLS as you describe! This is VERY real and should be addressed by doctors BEFORE they consent to giving a TL. Anyway, from my own perspective, I have noticed that my PMS and my overall mood swings are much worse after the TL. I do feel that rage at least a few times a month, I get very emotionaly when I think the hormonal issues associated with my cycle should have passed, etc. My periods are luckily not any heavier or worse than before, and I am still regularly ovulating and following a 28-32 day cycle. So is this age, is it normal after having kids, is it because I regret the TL so much that I have all these moods and emotions? Who knows... I do hope you find some answers and treatment for yourself if you need it. Good luck!

Hmm. I had a tubal ligation when I had some internal hemmorhoids (sp)repaired; let's just say that the hemmorhoid surgery completely overtook the tubal. I didn't feel anything from the tubal because the hemmohoid thingamagig hurt so danged bad! So sorry that I can't help you there.

I wanted to mention that all my life, my periods were horrendously uneven, unpredictable, and what little tiny bit of The Pill I used in my lifetime didn't make much/any difference at all. In fact, The Pill didn't like me. So once the tubal was done for me, the same old, same old was--you guessed it, the same old. Nothing really changed, other than the fact that we didn't have to use a condom any more and I didn't have to worry about becoming pg (tried the Mirena IUD, too, and that made me siiiicccckkkk).

Two years ago, my periods radically changed; what had always been unpredictable and very long time periods in between my periods became 16, 18, 19 days in between and the periods were very heavy with severe clotting. Since my husband and I knew we'd have no more kids (our daughter was 8 years old then), I elected to have a Novasure Ablation done.

Haven't had a period since. I do sometimes get a little moody/like I might have PMS, but since I have absolutely no idea where I'd be "in my cycle," I can't pinpoint anything to that specifically. However, what PMS symptoms I "might" be experiencing is nothing like what I suffered from when I was in my teens and twenties.

In the last two years, my family has gone organic, and I found out I have some food problems (severe casein allergy, severe soy intolerance, severe gluten intolerance, a few other food intolerances). Since switching our way of eating and our lifestyle to natural/organic, I have noticed a tremendous change in the fact that I don't get as many/as severe PMS symptoms.

Really, a lot of how you feel is related to how your body is feeling; I am currently treating for severe nutritional deficiencies and can see a tremendous and drastic relief from a lot of medical problems I was having. It might be something worth looking into. I absolutely love my naturopathic doctor.

I had a ligation performed when I was 27, I'm now 33, and I've never had any problems with it. Sure, your periods are rarely normal, maybe once every 4-6 weeks instead of once a month, but that's expected, considering the pills are what put most women on a schedule. As far as any hormonal issues, chances are if you were on the pill before, it was masking any hormonal problems. Now that you're all natural in that department, you may have symptoms of pms or pmdd.

Now, if you're talking about something that is going on immediately AFTER surgery, then I can say that one thing that happened to me was my bowels basically went into shock. I had vaginally delivered my son, and then immediately was taken to surgery, so after all of that, my bowels literally shut down. The nurse kept asking me if I'd passed gas and I thought that was weird! But, after awhile, she called my doctor to tell him I hadn't, and also hadn't pooped. Well, long story short, doctor told her to give me an enema and...this is gross and really hard to imagine.....all the liquid from the enema got STUCK up inside me!!!! My bowels were just completely tightened up from the trauma!! So, nurse stayed with me waaaay after her shift since she felt awful about what happened with the enema. I had delivered my son at 10:30 a.m., and at about 9:00 that night, I had been sitting on the toilet in the bathroom for about 2 hours almost, with the nurse bringing me my son to breastfeed when he needed it, and FINALLY...again, disgusting.....I farted a fart that could've landed in the Guiness book of world records! By the time that happened, I looked more pregnant than I did before I came in!

Yes - I experienced EXTREMELY heavy periods after my tubal ligation. Not sure your age - you might want to see a dr. who specializes in natural hormone balance - my progesterone was totally out of whack, as well as my Vitamin D levels, and several others.

I eventually wound up have an endometrial ablation. Now I have been period free for almost a year - and my hormones are balanced!!

I have heard of it, although I did notice that many medical professionals tend to believe this is just a myth. I brought it up to 2 different docs that kind of blew it off. And when I looked it up online , i found others that their dr.s did the same. I cant help you with the natural treatment options,I guess that would depend on your exact symptoms. I had my tubes tied in July. I havent had any real problems yet, other than EXTREMELY heavy periods. hope this helps a bit .
