Pregnant - Itchy Tip of the Tongue?

About 10 days ago I got a tiny white dot on the tip of my tongue that was itching like hell but after few days the itch and pain subsided and the dot (that may have been a tiny canker sore or an irritated taste bud, not sure about it) shrank that I could hardly see it. Today after eating different foods at a potluck gathering, the tip of the tongue started itching again and that tiny little dot seems a little bit irritated and I am not sure whether the food may have been the culprit.I have been having a cold for the past several days, could not breathe properly so I have to breathe through my mouth especially at night and my tongue and lips get very-very dry, and I thought this may be another reason for my itchy tip of the tongue. I plan to go to the dentist in the next few days but any insight on this is highly appreciated.

What can I do next?

Sounds like an inflamed taste bud. I get them periodically and honestly when you are pregnant, anything can go "wrong"! :) I wouldn't worry too much. It could have been food you ate or just something else that irritated it, like a dry mouth perhaps from having a cold.

I wouldn't even call the dentist actually, it will go away eventually!

Probably something extra acidic that you ate. Pineapple does that to me.

I'm 70 and frequently have an itchy tongue. I've learned that sometimes it's because I've eaten something to which I'm allergic, sometimes it's because I have a canker sore along with a cold, and lately it's been because I've been sucking on my tongue. I'm not sure which came first. It may have been slightly itching which started the sucking or I may have started sucking and it became itchy with red dots. I do know that when I've successfully stopped sucking on it the itching goes away.

I've been to the doctor about it and they've all said they don't know what causes it and there is nothing that can be done. It could be such and such, all listed above.

I doubt yours has anything to do with being pregnant. Except that your body chemistry may be different and that can happen even when one is not pregnant, such as when one has a cold.

Whenever my allergies are acting up, my tongue itches. Since you are sick, that is all connected, the nose, throat, tongue, etc - so maybe that is what is going on. I wouldn't worry too much - my only concern would be if you are eating something you are allergic to. Just call your doc if it doesn't go away.

I would call your OB/GYN.

When I was pregnant, I had mouth issues including bleeding gums.

It's actually normal, but scared the crud out of me.

Talk to your doctor and he can make a referral if needed.
He might be able to help you without a referral.

Pregnant women's bodies do all kinds of weird things.

Best wishes.
