I am starting my search for a preschool in the Antioch area. I would love any suggestions or things to look out for! My daughter will be turning 3 in April and I am still on the fence about sending her this coming fall or if I should wait until she's 4? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I would definitely send her at 3. They love school and have so much fun at that age. My two were also "late" birthdays (July and August) and I sent them right after they turned 3 and they did great. I live in Antioch and sent both of my kids to the Millburn Church Early Learning Center. I liked that they got some very simple religion included in their lessons. It's not preachy or "in your face". Just the general life lessons I think we would all want our kids to learn anyway (be kind to others, honesty, etc). And for the 3 year olds, it's only 2 1/2 hours twice a week (Tues and Thurs). Enough that they get some independence, but not too much for them to handle at once.

You'll also have to make sure that she's potty trained by the time school starts. I don't think any of the preschools take them still in diapers/pull ups (but you might want to verify that with each school).

The only other thing I woud mention is that if you are going to send her this fall, you should pick a place soon. Most start registration in January and preschool programs around here are in high demand. When my first was going to be three, I started looking into it in April and was #7 or 8 on the waitlist at 2 different places! Good luck!

I would suggest to definintely send her in the fall. The first year (3's) is mostly socialization and just getting used to a structure/routine of school in general. It is definitely beneficial. Both of my kids turned 3 in June and I sent them a few months later in September.
We go to the Millburn Church Early Learning Center in Lindenhurst (Grass Lake/45) and it is great! It is a non-demoninational church and the preschool is wonderful. I highly recommend it. A lot of people from Antioch attend there too.
Good luck in your search!

Hello K.,

There are not too many preschool choices in Antioch. My son attended St. Peter's preschool. It is a great program wth an excellent teacher. I know there is camp crayon or crayola through the park district but it is tough to get into because it has limited space. I also heard that both Antioch high school and Lakes both provide a preschool program though I don't know anyone who has ever used them or any specifics.

Hope this helps!
