Does anyone have any experience to share about their teen Pro Active Plus? Apparently it's newer and has an added moisturizing component. My 13 yr old daughter wants to try it. She has been using a prescription cream but says it doesn't work anymore. Did Pro Active Plus work for your teen? Any negative side effects? Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! I will look into some of the suggestions before I buy anything. Her acne is not even that bad, I don't think, but to her it's horrible. It's not cystic at all. BUT her dad had bad acne as a teen so I don't want it to get to that point. The cream she was prescribed can be drying and cause areas of her face to redden. I'll probably also take her to a dermatologist. I just don't want to mess around with her skin and face.

Take her to a dermatologist. The active ingredients in proactive are just OTC drugs that can be found in any drug store for a lot cheaper.

Any prescription drug will be stronger than proactive. Once again look at the active ingredients and compare strengths and price.

For my teen, what made the biggest difference was nourishing the skin from within, not so much using topical solutions of any kind. Kids who excessively wash do have problems with a lack of moisture, so perhaps that's the theory behind this new product. And while washing and not touching the face all the time are good habits, they just aren't the main answer to skin clearing. The skin is the largest organ, and most of the problems start well below the area affected by washing and topical treatment. Your daughter is noticing the cream doesn't work, and my guess is that's because her body is changing. Nothing she adds on top is going to make a difference. Cellular nutrition makes all the difference because it affects the way the cells are nourished to flourish, makes them plump and healthy, and also forces all the toxins out (which are trying to work their way out through the pores). We decided to spend our money that way and it made all the difference.

I may not be a teen but I used it myself and it made a huge difference. I would recommend it to anyone! My only advice is: use only white towels to dry your face and not to wear your favorite clothes when washing your face. Whatever is in proactive is so strong that it has a bleach effect on your linens. If I wasn't so self conscious about my completion I'd be more worried about what's bleaching our towels and clothes. But the difference after using the product is just that dramatic that I'm taking my chances. :)

This doesn't directly answer your question but I wanted to let you know my son suffered from horrible acne. Nothing worked. Not sure of how bad her acne is but if it is resistant and you aren't happy with the above, go to acne.org. Awesome resource. We did "the regimen". Worked like a charm, his skin is like porcelain now! Good luck!

We do oral meds, retin A, and proactive plus. He still gets a break out here or there but nothing like it could be. A few of his friends are on Accutane. If the pro activ isn't working, I'd suggest a trip back to the doctor. On our sons last visit we were told that if this current regime wasn't working, we would have to go up in dose. Good luck! :)

I used Pro Active in my early to mid 20s... (that was before the moisturizer) and it worked well. In particular, I used to like the mask because you could also dabb a pimple or two with it and dry them out... I like the astringent as well... However, as I got older, it was too drying.. but teens have oilier skin, so it may be good.. BEFORE you go on the auto-buy... try it out.. they have kiosks now at different malls... don't go overboard, buy just a couple products, see what you like... or if you do... I found on the auto program, I never used enough of it before the next package came and therefore, it was becoming too much..

good luck

The main secret to proactiv is getting yourself into a washing routine. They are all OTC, same thing you find in anything else over the counter. This tumblr blog has had 2 amazing posts lately about acne and washing routines, I highly recommend reading it before you shell out tons of cash unnecessarily. I've been following her instructions for about a week and can already see a difference. For me I think the big difference was just making sure I did wash twice a day (I'd been skipping the morning wash) and using a clean towel EVERY TIME.

Our dermatologist did not recommend ProActiv for my daughter. He said that the ingredients aren't as fantastic as the price would indicate. He recommended Murad's acne products. We went and bought them at Ulta (there's a 30 day sample pack so you can try a little bit of everything before committing to buying a full size of any of the products). I also bought her a Clairsonic. I have to say, my daughter's skin is beautiful now. She doesn't break out at all, and before we started this, she had typical teen/hormonal breakout issues.

If your daughter has cystic acne at all, maybe look into Accutane. I know most dermatologists are hesitant to prescribe it to teens, but I was on it in my early 20s and it worked wonders. My skin was PERFECT for about 10 years after that (until I had kids, haha).

M., acne comes from the inside, putting stuff on the outside will not cure it. It is about what she eats, what she absorbs (the toxicity in her body), vs what she eliminates (how she detoxifies).
You could scour the internet and ask your doctors, but the truly, you must do something to help her detoxify if you want to see long term results. My husband had acne for years. As a teen he used everything on the market. Even as an adult he suffered. Then he started on an amazing program and his acne cleared up. He barely has any flare ups for years. It is about what one eats and, just as important, how one cleanses.
I am going to send you a PM with a link to the program that he used. Yes it does say it's about weight loss, but for him he didn't need to lose weight, just the garbage from his insides. He lost 2 inches around his waist and gained 9 lbs of lean muscle. His eating habits changed and his skin cleared up within just a few months.
Perhaps it will work just as well for your daughter as it did for him.
