Hi mamas. I have just a quick question.. one of which I really have no knowledge but it pertains to myself. About a month ago I went to the dr with some stomach issues and he put me on OTC probiotic pills. They helped a lot.. well, I figured i'd try not taking them when they ran out and 3 days later (today), I went to the store and bought some more. Been having the same stomach issues again, etc. What causes people to need probiotics? Just curious as I've done some research and of course can't find anything conclusive on the Internet so I thought I'd get some real people's opinions. :) I appreciate it. I'm just trying to find out if I will need to take these for a long time (which is fine if I do, better than the alternative..:) )

Have a great day

I take a probiotic every single day ALL THE TIME. Probiotics offer your stomach the healthy bacteria that it needs to create a healthy environment. Immunity begins in the gut so besides helping your digestive system taking that probiotic will also help boost your immune system. Choose a good probiotic. the good bacteria in the probiotic needs to reach your stomach alive to be beneficial. The one I take is triple encapsulated to ensure that. Another thing to consider for you since you have stomach issues is a prebiotic. Prebiotics feed the healthy bacteria to help them flourish. Shoot me any other questions if you like. I sell supplements for a living.

My very basic understanding is that they help w/ the good flora.
Bad flora like yeast wreck havoc on your body.
Good flora help your digestive system work better.
And everyone is different. Though I think people who eat a lot of sugar and carbs (me) probably have more issues than those that don't.
Gluten, caesin, etc. all that stuff can cause people problems.
Does that make sense?

Sometimes our systems get out of whack for one reason or another...Diet, illness, senstive issues. Probiotics are just good in general. I always tend to have yeast issues so I am on them continously and they're fantastic. Keep it up. It helps me and it helps your immunity.

I take probiotics everyday. They replace the good flora in the gut. Most of your immunity comes from there. Taking anitbiotics, have a gastrointestinal disorder or eating meat containing antibiotics are among the reasons we need to take them.
I use Shaklee's because they are the only company that guarantees a certain amount of the live flora are still there when you take it. If you read the info on others, they just guarantee how much was there when they shipped it. My doctor also said most of the flora in those products is dried and has to reconstitute itself which also means less available.

My stomach has been in bad shape for a long time. I started taking probiotics and I can drink hot chocolate and soda again. Probiotics put the good bacteria back in the digestive tract. It is really amazing what they do. I take a pill every day and give one to my young son. We hardly ever get sick. They also help with the growth of yeast. They help with eczema and cold sores. They heal the body from the inside out.
