Can anyone offer me any suggestions: where would one begin or how would one begin to treat something called "Anxious Attachment Disorder"? This is a person very close to me, who needs help, and I don't know if there's any way I could be of any help. If anyone has ideas, tips, any knowledge at all, please let me know. It's a behavioral issue that is becoming severe. I want to be supportive but don't know where to begin or what to say. Thank you in advance if anyone has anything at ALL to share with me! It's very sad, and I'm at a loss of what to do/say/not do/not say, etc.

What can I do next?

Hi, Please check out these web sites.

It's frustrating not knowing what to do or how to help. I have an autistic son and remember the feeling well. Go on the web and read all they have on this disorder. The key seems to be making the person feel secure in themselves so that they can loosen the attachment a little and interact with others.

Remember in this case as in most others knowledge really is power.

Good luck.

i'm sure the child's mother has talked to a pediatrician, is he/she the person who diagnosed him? Make sure they get a second opinion from someone else, and also, there's an early intervention program for children with these types of problems. I don't know how old the child is that we're talking about here, but most programs are free.

Read up. Maybe as an outsider you can't be of help. This is so complicated. You may see that it is not just the child that needs treatment, rather the healing may be needed for the adults responsible for him/her. The source of the disorder is behavior, not the childs... but the caregivers. If you discover the cause, you can discover a solution.
