Puffy Undereyes

Hi A.. My daughter is like that. Everytime she gets sick or extremely over tired she gets the circles under her eyes!! It will go away. It's probably not an allergy but just an indication that he's sick. Good luck.

Does anyone in your family suffer from environmental allergies? This is a very common occurrence in my family ... most of us go around with puffy, red, watery eyes and stuffed-up sinuses from infancy through life. The fever is common with sinusitis.

Another thing to think about ... have you made any changes in laundry products, bathing products, etc?

This could be from not enough sleep or dehydration. Make sure with a fever you are offering plenty of fluids. You lose fluids through a fever and you want to be sure you are replacing those. Switch to Tylenol for a few days. See if this helps.

It may be that your little guy's stuffed up, which is causing swelling of the sinus area under the eyes. You may want to call and talk to your Ped nurse to find out if he needs to be checked or if there is a decongestant or saline rinse you could use to clear out the stuffiness.

My daughter gets swelling under her eyes when she is congested, especially this time of year with the pollen allergies.

It sounds like he might have allergies. You may want to talk to your pediatrician about using Benadryl. I am not sure what age they can start taking Claritin but I believe it is 2 years old. My 5 month old was just diagnosed with allergies and the doctor said that the only thing I can do at this ti,e is Benadryl. Good luck and I hope that it is nothing more serious.

My sons eyes get puffy because of allergys, not to meds but to grass and trees. These allergys are very high right now. You may want to check into this. They can lead to sinis infection and with that fever etc.

Is he not sleeping as much or not well? I get puffy eyes when I haven't had enough sleep.

he could have a sinus infection which could cause a fever- and often sinus infections can cause swelling under the eyes or the nose as well. I would think, though that your son would be having cold- like symptoms if this were the case. If he does have allergies this could be what lead to a sinus infection.

My daughter often had the puffy eyes with a fever. For her, this ended up being a tell-tell sign of a sinus infection, which was kicked off by allergies. She started on Claratin (liquid) at under 1 yr. She had been on antibiotics every 3 wks (2 wks at a time) since 8 wks old because of the sinus/ear infection chain. controlling the allergies really helped.

it's totally because he is sick. probably tired and his body is just not feeling well...think about when we get sick. hope he feels better soon :)

I agree with Jennifer...it could be allergies to pollen (we are in full blown allergy season!) Also...it is possible to develop an allergy to motrin even though no reaction was observed with previous exposure. If in doubt, ask the pediatrician.
