Putting "Racey" Pictures into a Book for Husband

I am tossing around the idea of having glamor shots (but a bit more "racey") taken by a professional photographer for my husband for his birthday. The photographer will give me all the rights to the pictures so they'll be on a CD...how can I get them made into an actual book? I know there are online options but are there consultants? I'm thinking that Kodak wouldn't want to do those types of pictures...any consultants or suggestions?

What can I do next?

You can do it on Snapfish. It is completely online and you design the whole thing. I did one for my son's baby pictures when Oprah had the free photobook offer, and I LOVE it. Mine was hardcover, and it really is just like a regular hardcover book. Depending on the size you want, the prices vary from $5 to $50 [and up for extra pages]. I remember the one I got would have been about $40 at the time, plus $7 shipping and handling but again, there are cheaper options. You could also make an actual poster for him on there too

There are several online options. Snapfish, Picaboo, Blurb just to name a few but if you are concerned with others seeing the pictures (anything done online is apt to be seen by many people) then best bet is to get a scrap book and put the pictures in yourself. You can print them at a Kodak kiosk so that you have good quality and the scrapbooks can be bought at Michaels, Target, Walmart or any scrapbook place. If you do go for the online option I would pick Picaboo since you don't have to load your pictures to a site. A little more secure.

I believe Creative Memories has photo scrapbooking software to make books, calendars, and postcards yourself. I think there are consultants listed in the business section of Mamasource. Otherwise, google Creative Memories for their main site and you should be able to look up a consultant close to you. You could also try other photo/scrapbook stores near you for suggestions.

I did that one year for Valentine's, and my husband loved them!

If you ever want to put together another book, please check out my website at www.MyPhotobookStory.com. I am a consultant with Heritage Makers.

The templates are 100% customizable, it's all online, and the products are the best quality. I have used Shutterfly and Snapfish in the past, and am extremely disappointed in the templates and the quality of the books. I did the free Snapfish book through Oprah, and it's already falling apart.

There's always the option of printing them yourself at home. That way you'll only have what you'll need for the book and it will be cheaper than paying someone else to print them for you. Also, then only you, the photographer and your hubby will see the pictures.

I have an Epson printer/scanner/copier that has a picture printing function. You have to buy special paper for it but its easy to use. I have had a few problems with ink going back and forth from picture paper to regular paper so you might want to consider getting a printer that's only for pictures. Something like the following will do:

Of course, that one is quite pricey, but I showed it because it can print up to 8 x 10 photos. The size of the pictures is something you'll have to keep in mind when choosing a printer. You can get them for as cheap as $50, but then they generally only print smaller-sized pictures. I doubt you'd want to get anything bigger than 8x10, otherwise it wouldn't really fit into a book. This printer would be a good investment for printing photos in the future for your family.

And, if you wanted to have something larger (a poster or something) you can always order just that online.

Good luck and have fun!

I did this for Valentine's Day one year. My hubby loved them! I just put them in a small scrapbook. That way I know nobody else will see them!

Boudoir portraits are kind of trendy right now, so I doubt you'll have a problem getting them printed. They are usually suggestive without showing too much so it should fit within the "standards" of most printers. Have fun, I'm sure he'll love them! I've been debating on having some done for a while.

Maybe try Walgreens, can do the whole thing online, order and have shipped to you. Then you can delete the photos from your Walgreens account.

Just a heads up, I would sign a contract and read every fine print in it. You having the rights to have the photos on a CD and use them as you see fit is completely different then the photographer deleting all the photos from their computer so they longer have them. All photographers keep backup of the pictures for at least a year or longer. The way you worded it seems like you just get the CD of photos and have permission to print the way you see fit.

I did something similar for my hubby; I had a close friend take the pictures, she actually developed them for me in a dark room, if it was digital I could just have gone to Walgreens or simila

Creative Memories has some free online software that you can use. I've never used it myself but several of my friends have and do like it.

One thing to be cautious of is that even if you do the design yourself, anything you do on-line, will be seen by the person actually printing the book that you create.
