Question About Disney Dining Plan

Hello to all the Disney experts out there! :)

We are going to Disney soon and we are wondering about the dining plan and how it works with kids ages 2 and under. I have heard that they can't be on the dining plan - is that correct? If so, how does that work?

I heard someone saying that they just 'eat from their parents plate' - but what happens if they won't eat typical adult food and want things along the lines of mac n cheese, chicken nuggets, pizza, etc?

We will have two toddlers at the time of our trip who are too young for the dining plan so I was just curious how it works.

Thanks so much!

Kids under 3 years old do not get added to the dining plan because they know that kids this age don't eat that much and most would not want to pay for them. You can let them eat off parents or older kids plates or you can order something separately for them. You would then get your meals under the plan but have to pay for theirs. In some cases, I did have a waitress or two who just gave us an extra side of mac & cheese or mashed potatoes but we should have been charged for them.

Yes, kids under 3 are not on the dining plan. If they don't like your meal, you may have to pay out of pocket for another meal for them. You get a lot of food at each meal time so they are bound to like something from your plate.

You can buy a kids meal seperately if there is nothing for them to eat. They could probably split one.

One piece of advice-make sure to pre book your reservations to get the best value out of the plan. The costs for a table service meal vary widely. We didn't always use our credit right-for example:once we used them at ESPN for lunch which was about 8-10 dollars an entree. We should have used them at a steakhouse or a buffet that would have cost 25-40 dollars.

When we went to Disney last Christmas we had the dinning plan for my son who was 4 at the time but not my daugher who was 2. Honestly, most of the time she ate off our plate. You get a TON of food with the regular dinning plan and there was plenty for her to eat, but she's not a picky eater at all. The quick meals are the easiest because you get an appetizer (fruit, yogurt, things like that), your main dish (pizza, sandwich, depends on where you are at) and a dessert. It was really easy for her to eat, especially since she was 2 and didn't eat that much.

When she did need her own plan then we just purchased one for her, but it was on the rare occasion that we did that. If you have 2 little ones then you can probably do 1 dinning plan for them and have them split it. You CAN get them a plan, it just might be a little wasteful for them to have the quick meal, the full meal and then the snacks. We had so many snacks left over from ours that we stocked up for the car ride home.

For any sit down meals you want to eat reserve them as far in advance as you can, I want to say that it's 6 months in advance you can do that because the best placeses WILL fill up. We called the day we could reserve and places that we wanted were booked. Also, make sure to pay attention to the places that cost 2 sit down meals - like Cinderella's Castle. You can use the plan, it just takes up 2 of your meals. There are a lot of buffets as well and they never charged us for the children on those.

My name is N. Cox and I am a Travel Agent from Dallas. I have one quick question have you booked the plan already? Usually it must be booked when you make your reservations. They don't charge for dining for anyone 3 and under and you can order from the childrens menu and pay for it. There are enough choices that probably won't be necessary. If you don't already have a Disney book I would go to half price books and buy one. It will be a good resource for you. In the future if you need a vacation I would love to help you make your reservations. I book all kinds of vacations and it does not cost to use a travel agent.
Thanks
N.

Most dining options are buffet style, so you can get them what you think they will eat that way.
