So I woke up this morning with a fever blister/cold sore on my lip. It hurts and looks ugly. Does anyone have any remedies that works for them? Thanks for your thoughts.

What can I do next?

Lysine. I take 500mg 3x a day until it clears up. It usually keeps the cold sore from blistering. Even if you have the blister already start taking the Lysine, it really helps. It's the only thing I have found that works fast!

I get cold sores sometimes and there are a few anti-viral perscriptions you can use, but you'll need to talk to your doctor to plan for the next one. They have to be taken immediately when you first feel that tingle and you've missed the boat this time. If this is your first, then you will be getting them again for sure.

In the mean time, things like Abreva may help keep it moist so it doesn't get dry and itchy. Other than that, just wait it out.

I feel for ya. They suck for sure.

@Lucia ~~ Good advise, I'll try that next time too :)

Abreva. Expensive ($20) but worth every penny. It helps with the pain, and makes it go away much faster without turning into a full blister.

Yeah, it's strange but... my dad SWEARS by ice on it when you feel the first tingle... for this one, it's probably too late... cheap and fast, so probably worth a try next time you feel one comin' on...

Do you know of any compounding pharmacists? One of my nephews has gotten cold sores since he was a toddler, flaring up whenever it's very hot outside in the summer. Local compounding pharmacists provided a specially made chapstick for him to use - they heal much faster and they have slowed down dramatically. Good luck!

I use Campho-Phenique as soon as I know one's coming on. It usually gets rid of it in 3-days. Great product. You can get it at your pharmacy. Here's the weblink: http://www.campho.com/
