Range

I am in the market for a new range for my kitchen. I have the GE Profile, now which is only about 4 years old. I have had nothing but problems with it. I think service has repaired every part in this stupid range. It will not ignite for me without using an ignitor or a match. So I do want to stay away from GE. If you could share what you have and if you are pleased with it. Also, I would love a double oven.

Thanks

What can I do next?

In my old house I had a Maytag Gemini with the double oven and smooth cook top. I loved it. I have a GE in this house and so far I have not had any issues with it. I don't really know how old it is since it was in the house when we bought it. I think you can have lemon appliances just like you can have a vehicle. When it comes time to replace this range I will be in the market for another one with the double oven.
Look at different ones and read the reviews that other customers have posted as well as those from publications such as Consumer Reports. This will give you a good idea about the reliablility.

Dear D. -

I don't know how tall you stand, but if you are petite like me, 5'1" tall re-think getting a double oven. I can't get anything out of the upper oven, because with the door open, I don't have enough reach.

Happy appliance shopping.

You can check publications such as Consumer Reports, which specializes in testing and evaluating all sorts of products. You might be able to find an issue on ranges in your library (or even online? I don't know).

Another thing you might do is to contact whoever repairs your appliances. Repair people know what brands they are constantly fixing and which ones are better quality. By the nature of their work, they keep up with the times and know if a name that was good years ago (like GE) is still good now. You can't go merely by the brand name any more.

(I have a Maytag oven, but the only reason I have that brand is because very few wall ovens are made in the small size required for our old kitchen. I like it, though.)

Oooh! Me too! A double oven would be so wonderful this time of year!
I just thought I would tell you I have a Whirlpool oven, nothing fancy, 10 years old.
But I have never had a problem w/ it.
IDK if gas are more prone to problems than electric...?
My mom has a fancy Jenn Air. She likes it...but she doesn't like to cook/bake anymore. Lol.
HTH!

6 months ago I had to replace my 20+ year old Whirlpool. I went with another Whirlpool - not their top of the line model, but a good, solid mid range model. I was also told not to expect 20 years out of ANY appliance anymore. :-(
