Okay, so I've been wondering this for quite a while, but another question brought it back to my mind. Can some one explain to me the purpose/appeal of the "no-touch" hand soap systems?? I mean, from my perspective, what difference does it make whether you touch the soap dispenser or not? You're getting ready to wash your hands, so whatever germs might have been on the soap dispenser should get washed off then, as well. You're not going to touch the soap dispenser after washing your hands, so really, what am I missing here? Now a no-touch or one of those bare-skin touch faucets, TOTALLY get it.

What can I do next?

I have been saying that since they came out. I guess the gerophobes are taking over the world lol. How did everyone function years ago. Very well. No one ever thought of germs being everywhere. They were very happy. Did not spend everyday worrying about what they would touch. Oy

When you have raw chicken all over your hands, it's nice to know that you aren't transferring those germs to your kids the next time they wash their hands (perhaps a lot less thoroughly than you). Also with four kids around I've had to do any number of activities one handed.

I'm an odd one I guess. We recently bought a no touch soap dispenser for our bathroom. No it was not a necessity for most of us in the house however for my 5 year old autistic son it make a world of difference. He cannot master the simple task of pressing down on the typical soap dispenser while remembering to hold his hand beneath. Needless to say he is able to wash his hands without help now and that to me is the appeal.

That way you don't get whatever you're preparing to wash off your hands on the soap dispenser. Keeps the dispenser clean.

My husband tried to buy one of these the other day and I told him the same exact thing. If you're washing your hands, why does it matter whether you're touching the soap dispenser?? Just a gimmick. I personally don't like junk like that around my house. It ends up under the sink, never being used.

All I know is that my son (age 4 yrs) likes them better than regular ones. He calls them "ROBOT SOAP" and "robot water" and even "robot towels" and "robot dryers". He loves to wash his hands in a public restroom that has any "robot parts" to them.

Ha - but for the record - I don't get it either. Won't go buy one for my house. Although we now do buy the foaming pump handsoap. Love that it's foamed already!

My question about all of these products is --Don't you wash these things anyway?
Also they all run off batteries even the ones in public bathrooms -- do you want to keep changing batteries all the time.

If you have no touch faucets, it may make a little difference if you have no touch soap dispensers.

You may save a little soap, but othe than that it doesn't make any difference. The media has made too many people paranoid about germs. Why? it sells products and commercials. In other words, GREED.

Good luck to you and yours.

They totally aren't necessary, but I like that my preschoolers can get soap to wash their hands without my lifting them up and pumping a dispenser for them in public bathrooms. They could be handy in the kitchen so I don't get raw meat germs on the soap dispenser, but that little convenience hasn't made me go buy one.

A few germs are good for the immune system. But I wash the soap dispensers whenever I clean the sink anyway. I'm just weird like that. :)
