You "cough" when the doc removes it and it is barely even noticeable. Getting the second put one back in, however... that was a bit more than noticeable! But I am glad to have one again. 7 years now total, and happy with mine.
Hi there, I have seen alot of posts on getting the Mirena IUD, and I currently have it but will be having it removed tomorrow. when I got it I had some cramping, but my question is does it hurt to have it removed? Does it feel the same as when it was inserted, or worse? No pain? Thanks in advance for your input.
thanks for all the responses. It was as most of you said, I felt a slight cramp and it was done. Nothing like having it inserted. I am spotting and cramping a little today, but that's it.

Just cough when they say to cough I didn't even realize it was out until she said it was. I had no issues after either, got my period a less then a month later. Went about 7 months with periods that were much easier pain wise and then got pregnant again. I will never get one again but that is my removal story.
It hurts much more to have it inserted. Removing it isn't that bad.
I had my first Mirena IUD removed just a few weeks ago. My midwife said I might feel something during removal (similar to insertion), but she had me cough while she removed it and I felt nothing at all. I felt just a slight cramping a few minutes later, but it didn't last. Good luck!
I just got mine taken out last week. And it is not the most pleasent thing but i didn't have much pain after i left the doctor. I didn't feel like having sex or anything but i didn't need to take any meds. The doctor just tells you to take a deep breath and then they pull it out.
Having mine removed was a non-issue. I didn't really have much pain when I had it put in either. When I had it removed, it took about 3 seconds, I felt pretty much nothing, and I don't remember having any cramping worth noting. I had a super heave period after, then got pregnant, then had a miscarriage/D&C. Ever since I've had super heavy periods. I don't know if that's because of the miscarriage or the IUD being gone. They aren't any more painful, but just much more flow than I was used to ever having, so I had to learn to keep many more tampons with me!
They told me to cough, and it was over. I thought it would be way worse. Seems so strange how I had it for 5 years and it stayed perfectly in place.. but then it can be removed in a few seconds with no pain!
Good luck!
it was painless and super easy to remove! fyi...I got prego after my 1st cycle after removal!
I am having mine removed next week and they said it will feel alot like it did when they put it in :(
I had to have a local to get it inserted and doubled over in pain for 4 days and had heavy bleeding but when I removed it two and half years later I didn't feel anything other than a slight tug and had no bleeding until a week and half later which happened to be my regular cycle. I had it removed beginning of July and by end of October was pregnant.
Good luck!
