Help!
I have a 21 month old son who seems to wake up on summer mornings with bites all over his face. We have an older house, and no screens on some windows, and mosquitos love to come in. Is there a safe product I can use INDOORS on my child, or in the area that will repel them?

Help!

What can I do next?

I have heard that the OFF clip is actually pretty effective and it would be safe to put near him in his crib. Also, maybe you could try and buy new screens for those windows with them to help as well. I feel for him...I constantly am eaten alive by those pesky things!

There is a mama that made a statement a few questions above your question - check it out.
This is what it reads

Best mosquito repellant ever!!

I just have to share this & thank whichever mama on here I read this from in the first place...
Vanilla Extract & Water makes the BEST mosquito repellant I've ever used (and I've tried everything!), and it's safe for the little ones & pets too!
I was a bit skeptical, but decided to try mixing a few drops of vanilla extract with water in an old little Bath & Body Works bottle. Sprayed it all over myself before hubby & I went out to do some yard work. Let me say... I usually become a feast, and he doesn't get bit at all. This time, the tables were turned- he was getting eaten alive and I hadn't noticed any bugs at all!! So he went back in & sprayed down, and no more bites!
I also tried spraying this outside around where we were working when we were trying to fix our doorbell after dark... The moths even stopped coming to the light!! Also tried spraying all over the backyard for a BBQ- got rid of all the bugs in just a few minutes!! YAAAYYYY!!!
I am so excited about this, I am telling EVERYONE! I hate using all those chemicals around my family, and my baby (5mos) is apparently just as tasty as I am, and this solution will be safe for him too!
Thanks again to the mama who originally posted this- I AM SO IMPRESSED & EXTREMELY EXCITED!!
Now.. if anyone has a solution to the gnats (or fruit flies?) my hubby & older son have let in by leaving the foor open, I would really appreciate it! I did try the vanilla; didn't work. LOL

I wish you the best.
Take care.

I would worry about the root problem before worrying about chemical ridden repellants.

A mosquito abatement expert once told me that mosquitos don't like windy places. I think that if you installed a ceiling fan in your son's room and kept it running on the highest setting all night it would keep the mosquitos from wanting to be in there.

Good luck!

I don't know if skin so soft will work or not.....they have those things that you can hang on you, but you would have to keep it out of his reach at his age.....you might be able though to hang some around his room and see if that helps......I forget who makes them, but you are supposed to hang them on your clothes...........

Check it out on the internet and see what it says.

Good Luck.

I don't have a good answer re repellant, but I'd go buy some screening material and get those windows covered.

I also live in an old house with old wood framed windows that have no screens. I found a universal half screen that slides left to right to fit the width of the window. You push the window down on top of the frame of the screen to hold it in place. It was cheap and I think I found it at Wal-mart or Home Depot. Keeps bugs out and you can keep the window open. I also spray the edges around the windows for bugs every so often in case a spider or ant crawls in.

put screens on the windows and find a child safe bug repellant - ask your pharmacist - their advice is free.
Even if you're just renting - mosquitos carry serious diseases - so protect your family and invest in screens.

Besides your mosquito problem, I would be concerned about the windows because children climg and he could fall out of a window. FYI

There is no safe product to put on so young a child. Best thing is to replace your screens and get rid of any standing water around your house where mosquitoes breed. All they need is a little water in an old tire waiting to be disposed of, or any other objects lying around with a little water caught in a small depression.

I'm not sure if this will help, but could you hang a net to keep out the mosquitos over his crib or bed? Just a thought.
Also, how about spraying on the outside of the house with the windows closed of course, mosquito repellant.

Hello L., Have you considered why you have not taken screen material you can buy at any hardware or home depote store and stapeled it to the inside or outside window frame but there must be a great reason. It is cheap and well worth it.
We found the Avon skin so Soft is a great repellant and can be put on the childs sheets as well as the skin.
Since we are going to your area soon for a family outting I will be prepared for this so thanks.
