I do not remember the place but it is WoodDale. Do not go there or ask them to come over. They try to do a hard sell of about $30,000.-00. All I wanted was a couple of windows. He was going to have us take out loans, etc. Be very careful.
Looking to replace windows but the search for reputable companies in my area (Villa Park) is vast. Can anyone recommend a few places which I should call for quotes? If you have places NOT to call, that would be helpful as well. Looking for top down, bottom ups and also considering those with built in blinds. (We have an older ranch style house with bedrooms looking out onto the street so need that extra privacy without foregoing the pleasure of opening windows!) Thanks everyone!

I'm sure that you are probably getting a lot of these kind of answers, so here it goes..... I live in Villa Park and my son is a carpenter and is very reasonable. He does excellent work and can give you referrals. He's only 25, but has always been a really hard worker. He started when he was about 16 and has done just about everything on a house, except built one from the ground up. He's done a lot of rehab work and windows are always a big part of that. They are typically easy to install so don't let anyone rip you off. I have gotten exhorbitant estimates in the past (before he was my carpenter) that would blow your mind. Give him a call for an estimate. The name of his company is DFC (Dan Foss and Company Remodeling) and his ####-###-####.
Hi J.
My husbands cousin has his own remodeling business and he specializes in windows. He has done alot of our windows at home. The company is called Remodeling Dreams and his name is Matt. His number is 1-###-###-####. He is a certified carpenter. I have been very happy with his work.
Good luck!

Avoid Feldco. My mom purchased 22 windows from them and her living room never warmed up, in fact, every time it rained, rain just poured thru the windows. She called and complained several times and got the run around. The next spring, she called and they insisted that it was because she needed tuck pointing. She tuck pointed the entire apartment building and it still leaked. After many calls, someone finally come and inspected the windows. Much to her surprise, the installers (foreigners) had forgotten to install the installation around the windows. They insisted on only replacing the front windows since that was were the lead was. The side windows still allow cold air to come in, but since they weren't leaking, they refused. 2 of the 8 basement windows were bowed and they claim that's just how they were. She was worried about them cracking and they said if they cracked, they would be replaced. As predicted, they cracked that very winter, BUT, they charged her $250.00 per window to be replaced. When she insisted that they cracked because they were bowed, Feldco didn't believe her. All they said was "read your contract", it's officially out of warrantee.
Because of her experience, we decided to go with Dilworth (out in the suburbs). We had our windows and doors replaced. Prior to replacing the French doors, the alignment was fine. After Dilworth replaced the French door, within 3-4 months, the door was misaligned and would not close. I had called them several times and not once did anyone return my call. I ended up writing them a letter, took pictures, called time and time again and the owner finally came over and said the misalignment had nothing to do with their work. How he came to this conclusion, I have no idea. But, they tweaked the door enough so that we could close it but it's still misaligned. Prior to him leaving the house, he made it very clear that if the door misaligned again, they would not be sending out a crew to fix it.
So, even tho you are asking for suggestions, all I can tell you is to stay clear away from Dilworth and Feldco.
We used Next Door & Window to put in a garden window.http://www.doorandwindow.net/
The workers were very good. The prices were very reasonable. My neighbor was happy with Champion.

www.fairoakscontractors.net - in Downers Grove. Certified Pella contractor. ###-###-####
We got a great price and superb windows from Marvin Windows. They top Pella and Anderson and are cheaper.
Woodland Windows and Doors in Roselle. Honest, professional people and a great showroom on the corner of Gary Ave. and Lake St. Not too far from you.
We just had windows replaced in our house and we went with Marvin windows (currently the top brand from what I hear) and we used Woodland Windows and Doors in Roselle. We belong to Angie's List and they were highly recommended. We had no problems and would use them again.
Hi J. - I live in Wheaton and have been doing the research to replace some of our windows, as well as our patio doors, to get the ones with blinds between the glass. They're expensive, but I love the idea of never having to dust our window coverings and of having no hanging cords. The reviews I have read are overall very favorable, and the few people I know who have them are very happy with them. However, the choice of manufacturers appears to be limited to two sources - Pella and a company in MI called "Mr. Makeover" that makes a competing product.
Lowe's sells Pella products (orders take about 4-6 weeks), or you can call Pella to have someone come to your home for a free in-home consultation. My appointment is tomorrow, so I will compare Pella's quote with buying direct from Lowe's and paying a contractor to do the installation.
Mr. Makeover makes vinyl windows and doors with blinds between the glass that are about 2/3 the price of Pella's products and come in 33 color choices. Their website is www.mrmakeover.com. David Orr is the owner who I've been getting quotes from. He said they're about 5 weeks behind on orders right now because of the demand.
Good luck - I'd love to know if you learn of any other companies that sell blinds between the glass to residential customers!

We replaced all of our windows and doors with Renewal by Andersen. They are on the pricer side, but quality is outstanding. They have a showroom in Deerfield and Lombard (right behind Yorktown mall).
