Any thoughts on using an ordinary sharpie to label camp clothes? Does the rub a dub hold up better?

What can I do next?

I always used a Sharpie. The names I wrote on beach towel tags are faded but still legible years later.

I've used both and have had no real noticeable difference. Also, since they usually don't wash clothing at camp and your kid usually outgrows the clothing by the next time you send them to camp, it really doesn't matter what you use as long as you can see it for at least the camp time.

Some fabrics/tags hold the marker better than others. I have stuff I labeled a long time ago and I can still see the marking. Other stuff is gone after 3 washes. Now that our one son is basically done growing, I am thinking about using actual labels you can order for some of the items that I send year after year - but I never would spend that money if he was still outgrowing stuff. I also don't even bother to mark socks - the markings don't last and of all the things I don't care if I get back, it is socks :)

Good luck!

Now I feel like googling Rub a Dub!

Sharpie is what works for us. We even use ball point (just press firmly) and that stays on for us.

(I have recently been introduced to Mabels Labels mabelslabels.com - super easy labels for shoes, school supplies, water bottles etc. Just as a side note.We find they work super well. I use them for jackets but pen/sharpie for clothes).

I have never heard of rub a dub, but Sharpie has always worked just fine for me.

Sharpie will work just fine. Write their initials on the tag of the garment. That way it's easier to see.

I use black sharpies on Avery no-iron clothing labels. It fades over time, but not to the point that the name is illegible.

I don't know anything about Rub a Dub.

A sharpie is fine for one season, and if it fades by the end of the season or shortly afterwards. I've used both a sharpie and a specific "laundry pen" and I think the sharpie goes on more easily. And even if it fades by September, it makes it easier to donate or hand down the clothes!. He'll outgrow the clothes before next season anyway. Use the marker you have on hand and can use for other purposes.
