Please help!!! We are due to go to San Antonio for Christmas (and a few days before) and need to find some things to do with the kids (ages 13ys down to 2ys), especially if the weather is not nice. Free or inexpensive preferred. Thanks so much - happy holiday!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone - looks like we might try to get to the Children's Museum and maybe Brackenridge Park if the weather is nice, oh, and the Riverwalk!

We go to San Antonio often. The Riverwalk & Market are always a good bet. The zoo is great as well. I don't know about free inside stuff to do. I would google Family things to do in San Antonio and you'll have a good list. I'm sure they have some kind of drive through light spectacular. They have a Galleria Mall there with Ice Skating...

Have fun and Merry Christmas!

K.,

There is a Mission tour. Apparently, there were SEVERAL missions established within driving distance of each other in that area. We took a group of 4th graders to tour them and they were FANTASTIC.

As we walked into one of the missions, I think Mission San Jose... there was a calming peace that fell over us. Being the only teacher on the trip I got the "Rowdy Bunch". Even my group of boys commented on how still it was and how quiet. THey all were strangely more docile while we were there. The chapels are beautiful. The history is interesting...

You might check the tourist center. I remember there was a phamplet that told about each mission, it's history, and special characteristics.

Oh, and I don't think there was a charge to get in to any of the missions. Though it could have been a part of our tour fee. That's a question ot ask at the tourist center.

The children's museum in San Antonio is great--it's just a few blocks down from the Alamo (we walked--more importantly, my 2-year-old walked, without a stroller!). El Mercado, on the west side of town, is also good--indoor market with lots of cool stuff, although be prepared for the kids to want all kinds of crazy tchotkies (e.g. hats, marionettes, little guitars, etc). If the weather is nice, a boat ride is fun for the kids, plus they have free outdoor music sometimes at the riverwalk mall. We were just there in October with our 2-yo and had a great time--enjoy!

The Cultural Center of the Southwest is also great-lots of history and exhibits. If you haven't been to SA before you are in for a treat!
