Hi y'all!
I am helping my sister find a neuro doc in or around arlington tx. She has severe migraines, been on prevention meds and her current meds no longer help. The family doc is out of options So..... does anyone know of a good doc that will help and not just subscribe pain meds? This is ruining her quality of life and I want to help.
Thank you!
H.

Hey H.!!! Sure have missed you!!!

Has she had a sleep study done? One of my co-workers suffered from HORRIBLE migraines...after 5 years of drugs that weren't working...they suggested a sleep study. She was found to have sleep apnea. Once they figured that out and got her on a CPAP machine? NO MORE MIGRAINES!!! YAHOO!!!

Same for one of my dear family friends.

Here are two sites I found by googling "Migraine specialist in Arlington, TX"

I've been to Dr. Nguyen across from Arlington Memorial, Dr. Orr in Mansfield (I'm not sure if he's still practicing), and now see Dr. Nieto in Mansfield. I've had chronic migraines for 30 years - diagnosed at 14 and now I'm 44. For the past several years I've averaged 17 days with migraines each month.

I've tried all kinds of meds, and have been on a preventative med for about 9 years that at least lessens the severity of the migraines. I've tried seeing a chiropractor and did Botox for migraines for awhile.

Six weeks ago I went to an acupuncturist in Mansfield. I've been 3 times and have only had 3 migraines in six weeks. It's been life changing.

Feel free to pm me if you want info on where I went. She could go to any acupuncturist, but this one is really good with migraines.

Good luck to her, whatever treatment she tries.

*Dr. Nieto does the Botox injections.

I do not live in your area, but I would suggest finding a neurologist that does therapeutic botox injections for migraines. Not every doc does this, so this might be an avenue to start with.

So sorry for your sister. I have a friend who has had debilitating migraines. Here's what she figured out - maybe, just maybe this will help your sister.

My friend has a bad sensitivity to MSG. This took a lot of work to figure out. Your sister needs to work on clearing her diet of any possibility of MSG.

Secondly, my friend was using Imitrex. Maybe they have some new migraine meds out since I talked to her, but I want to tell you what she figured out. Imitrex has 3 different delivery forms - pill, nose spray and injection. Only one worked for her. She tried all three. SO, if your sister has not tried all 3 ways, tell her to do that.

I hope very much that one of these recommendations might help her. Hope you can find a good neurologist too!

You need to call around and specifically ask for a Board Certified Adult Neurologist who specializes in migraines. They are out there, often by word of mouth amongst other neurologists.

I work for doctors so I kind of have a gimmie for finding good docs but you don't live here.

I would actually call a pain doctor. I know it sounds odd because they are not who you want right now but they know who the good doctors are. Okay the doctors I work for are anesthesiologists so they have pain offices. I know our doctors hate pain management and only do it as a last resort.

My husband has back problems, he went to them, they said you don't want to keep coming here, go see this guy. Or I work for the only honest doctors, who knows. Worth a shot?

Robert McMichael is very good. His office is in Mansfield, not too far from Arlington.

Other people have mentioned some other ways to relieve migraines, and I've had help from some of those as well. Acupuncture has been particularly helpful. That works best if it's done as prevention on an ongoing basis once a week or so for a couple of months, instead of only during a migraine. I haven't had a headache migraine in probably 2-1/2 years after some consistent acupuncture for a few months.

I get abdominal migraines, in addition to the headache kind (not at the same time, thankfully!) I've found an essential oil blend that works like magic! It's doTerra's Deep Blue. Young Living has one with almost the same oils, as well. I haven't had a migraine headache since discovering this remedy a year ago, so I haven't tried it for that. It would be messy in
a person's hair, but when in terrible pain it could be worth a try.

I suggest you repost/edit with the location in the title of the question - "neurologist in Arlington TX area" so you get seen on this board. Not everyone gets every post.

There are also alternatives to neurology/medicine, especially since you don't want someone who prescribes pain meds. I work with a lot of people who use food science and are migraine free. But there are others who use neurologists, pain clinics, acupuncture, chiropractors, biofeedback and other techniques.
