Hi moms,
We are heading to San Antonio for a few days at the end of August and are planning on hitting Sea World. We'll have an 11 week baby and a 2 1/2 year old. Not ideal ages I know but since we'll be there, I wanted to at least take them to sea world for a bit. I'm planning on doing the 2 days for the price of 1 since I can't think we'll be able to stay more than half a day and hopefully that will make it a little less crazy.
Any advice/recommendations would be so appreciated! I've never been to Sea World although we do the Ft Worth Zoo often and my 2 /1/2 year old loves that!
Thanks!!

So What Happened?

We ended up having a great time! The first day we stayed from 10-3 and did several shows but our 2 yr olds favorite was feeding the dolphins and sea lions. We spent lots of time at the penquins exhibit b/c it was dark, air conditioned, and a great place to nurse. The next day we did breakfast with the sharks and that was fun but probably not worth the ticket prices although it was nice to be at the park so early. You do have to book those shows early-we couldn't get into the dinner with Shamu one. We did need to do the shamu show and dolphin feedings several times so that they ended up being fun and not scary for our toddler. We had no problems with our infant-I bought a camping fan to hang on the stroller (magnetic-found at dicks) and she did really well.
We bought everything online before going so we didn't have to stand in line-getting in the park went very quickly and easily. It was so nice being able to do 2 days b/c it was not stressful at all and we were not worried about needing to leave for naps.
We stayed at the Westin La Conterra resort which is a 15 min ride from Sea World, has great pools, and is near a great shopping area with a Babies R US and a high end outdoor mall.
Thanks for all the advice!

We went with our 3 year old this past May, & he had a blast!! We brought the stroller just in case, & I hid granola bar & other snacks in it. We brought a stroller fan (clips onto stroller), hats, a water bottle with a fan on it, & sunscreen. We did it all in one day...if you plan the shows right.

We stayed at the Radisson also in a suite. It was a lot smaller than we expected. I think for the money we will splurge the extra $50 to stay at the Hyatt. We prefer the Hyatt.

It was our 1st vacation together as a family, & we had the best time. Hope your time is as good as ours.

Kristen,

Have fun! Your 2 1/2 year old will LOVE IT! Breaking it up will probably be good. Between all the shows and walking around, you won't be able to fit everything into one day. I'm not sure on advise with the baby though, but I'll be in your shoes in a few months. I'm having my baby on October 1st and we want to take our in-laws to Sea World in november or December, so we'll have our newborn plus 2 year old as well.

Good luck!

We love sea world, and think the 2 day tickets are great. One year we went ahead and spent the little bit extra and got seasons passes, and then planned another trip for later that year. It will be hot, so be sure that you dress the baby for that, and remember that it is still not easy for them to regulate their own temperature, so taking her in and out of the stroller will help. I would suggest not using the pumpkin seat, and just laying her in the stroller and clipping a fan to it to help rotate some air. Even getting her wet some should help. I would plan on a double stroller, or at least a sit and stand because it is a lot of walking. And the water park is lots of fun. We wore swimsuits with coverups for most of the time and just went back and forth some. We also spent exrta for the dinner with Shamu and the kids loved it. BTW, several of the shows use water and get members of the audience pretty wet, so dont sit in those marked areas for sure if you dont want to be sprayed. At the beginning of the 1st day, I recommend splurging for the big plastic cups for drinking, and then we just asked for ice and put water in them throughout the day. The next day, we took them in already filled with something, and only paid for a soda refill once each day. We still have the cups and use them from time to time. We also stuck some snacks in the diaper bag, which helped. Overall, it should be a great time, and when it gets to be too much, admit defeat, head back to the hotel for a rest, and try again later. If your son will nap, and then stay up late for some shows, it is cooler then, so it might work out well. Have lots of fun! ~A.~

I took my 2 1/2 year old daughter and nephew to Sea World about a month ago and they LOVED it! They enjoyed the shows and the different animals around the park. They weren't big enough to ride any of the rides but there is a spray park and pirate's ship and some other things for them to do. We were there from 10 am-3 pm and were plenty busy the whole time!

FYI, for the little one though...you can't take strollers into any of the shows so you will have to carry, sling, etc. the little one.

I personaly would wait to take the 11 week old. My daughter was 4 months last year when we went but I felt it wasnt ideal for her to go with the hot weather and the crowds. So I left her with family. She is now 14 months and we are planning on taking her this year when she can appriciate it more and will be easier to handle.

My 26 month old LOVED it but Me personally I would wait until the newborn is older. My son was 13 months when we went and got VERY sick w/his VERY 1st case of a SEVERE throat infection. 104 temp, dehydration..

I personally would NOT go if I had to take my newborn, there are way too many people and way too many germs for a newborn to be around, it's just not worth the risk. That's my 2 cents..

If you decide to go I hope you have fun and stay healthy..

We just went the first of July. We stayed at the Raddison Hillcountry Resort. I did priceline.com and got great rates.
We used the shuttle and did not have to park...they dropped us off at the the front of the Park. We did the breakfast with the dolphins and were some of the first to be admitted into the park...missed all the lines. At the time we were there you could take a pepsi can and get money off adult tickets.
Hope you have fun
