409 Oxy Magic. It is located near the laundry detergents. It is a super cleaner. I use to it clean carpet, clothing, my kitchen, my bathroom. It is great and doesn't bleach stuff either.
Hello All!
We are beginning the potty training process with my oldest little guy and we are finding that it doesn't bother him to go potty even if all he's wearing is underwear. So, we are considering letting him run around naked to see if that will help. Wondering if anyone knows of a good disinfectant that can be used on furniture and carpet that will get rid of the stain and the smell? Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you in advance for your time :)
Well, thank you all for your opinions and advice. I just want to clarify that we were not planning on letting him run around naked all day long every day, pooping and peeing on everything in sight. We thought we might try it once or twice to see if it would allow him to realize that something was happening. And actually we did not try it because after one of our "tries" on the potty, he stood up and peed right there on the bathroom floor and did not acknowledge that anything was happening. Therefore we decided to let it go for now and wait a couple of months to try again - he is just not yet ready. Which is ok, because boy was it a lot of work!!

Hi K.,
Considering that your little one is only 2, I think you are just making more work for yourself. Honestly, as soon as he has one accident on your carpet or couch, the smell will be there forever. The reason he doesn't mind being wet/dirty is b/c he's not ready to be out of his diaper. You'll know he's ready b/c he WILL mind and will want to be clean. Im afraid you will be setting up and extremely unhealthy environment for you and for your littlest baby. Please, please don't choose the 'no diaper' approach. I cant fathom why this would be an attractive choice...you have more of a chance of training him while he is WEARING the wet diaper/underwear. He will get the potty training when he is ready and no sooner. Trust me, it will be easier than you think...WAY easier than cleaning up pee/poop all day long!

Hi K.,
I tried the "run around the house naked" method and it kinda worked for me. One thing I absolutely did not let him do is sit on the furniture. He had to sit on the floor with a blanket under him (we have no carpet). For areas without carpet, I recommend 409 or bleach water.

Hi K., I didn't read all the responses but if you didn't try arm and hammer baking soda yet it's worth a shot it's natural and I've used it on animal clean ups and it works great. It's also good for hard to clean stains in toilets and sinks. Good Luck T.
p.s. Just a little goes a long way. sprinkle on pee to absorb and it helps with the oder as well.
2 yrs & 2 months is still very young.. He may not be ready yet and pushing too much could set him back further.. IF he is not showing any interest in the potty and doesn't care about being wet, he is not ready. As far as letting him run around naked and peeing/pooping all over everything, I think that is disgusting and filthy and not sure any disinfectant will get rid of that especially out of carpet where it will soak in to the padding, etc. So my opinion is let him watch some videos about it. One that worked great for us was Potty Power, we bought it from www.pottysolutions.com .. its a great video .. My daughter wasn't potty trained until 2 1/2 month before her 3rd birthday. I could tell she wasn't ready any earlier.. So, when we did start to push it and her daycare did too..She did great! Only a couple accidents for the first few days.. Then none at all..sleeping through the night and everything.. Then of course do the reward program for pee and poo poo and make it fun. I did a very silly dance with her about pee and poo on the potty and all that. Kids love to learn through singing and dancing. Her daycare told me not to bother with pull ups, ever..she said there are just an overpriced diaper. Panties only - when they are ready. I have a nephew that wasn't potty trained until 3 1/2 yrs old, he just wasn't ready. But he was extremely advanced in everything else! Anyway, good luck in whatever you decide. A.
He's very likely too young to grasp the concept of the potty.
The Average age for a Boy to Potty Train is 3yrs 5months old.
K.,
We started potty-training our sone when he was about 22 months and he was "pee-trained" by the time he was 2 and "poop-trained" shortly after. We let him run around in underwear to catch the poop and then we cleaned up the pee with vinegar. (We also use vinegar to clean up after our pets!). Good luck!
Hello!
Have you ever heard of Melaleuca The Wellness Company? They have wonderful safe products that actually work. There products do not have any harmful ingredients and they are environmentally friendly. If you need more information just let me know.
K.,
Although there are some wonderful cleaning products out there that claim to be able to remove those smells, they don't work long term. Any wetness on carpet and upholstery sinks into the padding where it is trapped until a new wetness re-releases the odor. You may not be able to smell the odor after cleaning it but it remains dried into the pad. On a good humid day...the odor will come back. Also, your nose will adjust to the constant smell in the room and you may not notice it. However, someone coming into your home will be able to smell it as strong as if you never cleaned the mess.
I just three weeks ago ripped the carpet out of my living room due to urine odor. Last fall I was taking care of my best friend's mom who had lung/bone cancer. We had cleaned the carpets but the areas where she had accidents, when she was too sore to move quickly, held the odor until this summer when it got humid and the smell returned just as strong as it was BEFORE we cleaned.
Buy a good pair of rubber pants to go over his underwear that will help hold wetness. doubling up on training pants will also. Good luck!!
Use any carpet/upholstery cleaner that is for pets. They clean and deodorize as well. Woolite has one and I'm sure there are other brands that have pet specific cleaners. Those should work well. Good luck.
Hi K. - my son was 18 mos when he was potty trained (his choice) and we had accidents occasionally. Most of the spots where in the bathroom on tile, so I'd use Lysol All-Purpose. I use that for everything, so I'd give that a try. But like another mom pointed out, nothing is long term; over time, continous accidents WILL ruin your furniture / carpet / flooring / etc. So be careful & try not to let that continue too long.
Good luck with the potty training!!! : )
buy pet stuff, the cleaning products people use for dog or cat urine my daughter keeps spilling milk on the carpet, now mind you i have a carpet cleaner i use about every two weeks that i bought for 100 dollars at kmart but in the mean time for that or when she takes her diaper off herself and hides and pees i use pet cleaner it had odor control!
Hello K.,
Melaleuca, a mail order type company, has wonderful non-toxic products. I tried being a consultant but couldn't commit to the time it took to be sucessful. I stand by the products and still use them today including disinfectants. The product was a heaven send with having four children and one child with asthma.
hey K., you can try a product called Odo-Ban...it is normally a commercial used product but they make it in a less powerful strength for your household as well. you should be able to find it at any hardware store....hope this helps.
