Seeking Help with 3Day Fundraising Ideas

Hi Ladies. So, I am on a team for the upcoming breast cancer 3day walk in October. Each walker has to raise a minimum of $2,200 in order walk. Our team is trying to come up with cost effective ways to raise money, but, with the slump the economy is in, it is turning out to be more difficult than we thought. Has anyone ever participated in this event before? Does anyone have any amazing, cost effective fundraising ideas that have gotten good results? We are hosting a dessert/tea reception and having a boob-a-que later in the Summer, but other than that, we are stuck. Since there are 10 girls on our team, we have to raise a total of $22,000! Yikes! Any ideas would be much appreciated. We are having a meeting on Sunday, and I would love to show up with ideas. Thanks in advance!

Hi Candice!
I did this a few years ago and the first thing I did, which I assume you all have done, but if not is to contact everyone - I mean everyone that you haven't talked to in a long time- via email and tell them what you are doing and why. My mom had just gone through breast cancer so I know I had a lot of support that way, but I was surprised by who donated. People give $ every year for tax deductions just be sure they do it for you this year.
Our baby sitter just did the Team in Training and raised $4,200 and about $2000 of it came from babysitting kids. If it is possible for you to do that, it's easy. I would make my check out directly to the Leukemia and lymphoma society so it was a win, win for both us.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
Have fun! It's definitely a journey of a lifetime.

I noticed a big sign for a 3Day fundraising garage sale last weekend and thought...what a great idea. I participate in the March of Dimes March for Babies walk everyspring. This past year I walked as part of the Share Atlanta team and our team goal was to raise $30k. One of the big boost for the team this year was the email/webpage widgets available on the MOD website. We were able to add our online fundraising progress bar to email signatures and webpages like myspace & facebook. It was a tremendous help. A few other ideas that were discussed in a family team conference call were: bakesales, donation jar next to your candy dish @ the office, the email widgets, creative statistics ie I want to raise $100 for every X number of people who will be diagnosed etc. I also found that wearing shirts from previous years events when out running errands or casual lunch dates with friends helped remind/inform them I was raising money for my cause. Hope this helps! GOOD LUCK!

I am a consultant with Two Sisters Gourmet. We do home cooking parties...however, we also offer fundraisers where you keep 50%. I pay shipping and tax! As a thank you to you and your team, I would have all orders come to me and bag orders then deliver to you.
You can host a tasting and invite everyone to come try the foods before ordering or pass around flyers (that look like Girl Scout cookie forms :o).
Everyone eats so it's a delicious alternative to regular fundraising. I would be happy to give you more info. Please call me if I can help in any way. P. ###-###-####

Yes here I go....
1) If you have any kids maybe you can get the school to cooperate in the following ways 1) Have all the kids bring $1 on a certain day and that goes toward you 2) Have the school let you sell chocalate bars (usually co will donate this or give you a special prize)
2) Maybe for those who work some of the company will donate some money
3) Have a car wash, luncheon, etc And maybe newspaper, radio station, tv station will promote this for you for free
4) In your neighbood you could pass some flyers out saying what your group is doing and that you will be coming out on a certain night and collect a donation from those house holds that want to contribute
5) Talk to any big store to see if you can be in front of their doors with a can asking for donations from the customers that are going in Maybe they will even let you ask the employee for a donation
Hope this helps out, Telly/E.

Candice - you might consider hosting a Discovery Toys fundraiser. Our hostess plan normally rewards with products, but for a charity the benefit can be taken in cash. Since you are involved in this website, you must be a mom and probably know lots of moms who would be interested in high-quality FUN educational toys, books, and games which come with a lifetime unconditional guarantee. Take a look at my website (www.junithstoys.com) to view the products and let me know if this is something you would like to discuss.

My neighbors also do the 3Day walk every year...they have a BIG garage sale twice a year with all the proceeds going to the walk. They ask for donations for things to sell. I bet between the 10 of yall you could come up with tons of things. They also put up signs at the garage sale letting people know that all the money is for the walk..some people even just stop to make a donation. Good Luck...this is a great cause & a great thing you and your friends are doing.

Hi Candice,

I ususally do the Atlanta 2 Day walk, but here are some ideas I've used for fundraising in the past. Definitely talk to the schools once kids are back in. I am a teacher so I put out a newsletter to my parents and we did a loose change drive for a month. We raised over $1000 in that time and I'm at a very small school. If your team has kids at multiple schools, that would be quite a bit of money. We also hosted a spaghetti dinner and a wine/cheese party and asked people to donate $10 per person to attend. You could also ask businesses for items and host a silent auction at the dinner or your upcoming boob-a-que (great name by the way). Home based businesses like Mary Kay reps, Premier Designs Reps, etc (I am both and would be happy to help) will often give an item or basket for auction. Good luck with this. It's such a worthwhile cause.

Well, don't know if this helps but what about going to a few business's and asking them to sponsor your group..it's a tax write off...here's a few of my ideas of a few places to approach. How about one of those bra shops the one over by Lenox Mall that Oprah likes and if they'd consider a donation, if not just giving a donation how about asking them to host with you a show and have some ladies model new bra's in a tasteful manner charge a fee for either little desserts/coffee tea or a fee for the show. Here's another idea see if you can get some celeb's from here to be there like the young lady on Atlanta and Company also once you have some things you are going to do see if they will let you come by and be on the show to let people know about it. Many business's if asked will donate items or money to help with such a fund raiser having a list that has all their names on it for everyone to have access to maybe a website that has them on it while working on this fund raising. I used to help my boss who was an Elected official raise money, get volunteers etc.. sometimes people don't realize that if they just ask people will help and at tax time it's a write off. At your boob-a-que how about a silent auction??? and to have some neat things get local business's to donate items and contact some local celeb's honestly you'd be surprised at folks who would help. Sorry, that's all I have at the moment I left it about 8 yrs ago I'm a little rusty. If I come up with anything else will let you know. Best of luck and success!!
