Seeking Local Organic Eggs and Cickens

Some mommy friends and I are on a new kick of trying to eat what we grow and can get locally. I have been put on the path of finding a local farmer who we can get fresh, preferably organic eggs and chicken's from. I found a great website called localharvest that you can punch in your zip and get a listing of all local farms but haven't found a place that I can pick up eggs and chicken. I find the farmer's markets here a bit pricey and not so great. I am trying to convince my husband that our back yard could house a few laying hens but no luck yet. Does anyone know of someone in or close to South Boulder that has fresh eggs and chickens?? Thanks, E.

What can I do next?

It's a buffalo farm. They have farm fresh eggs, free range chicken & pork. You can even buy a cow share and get raw milk products. They also have other packaged products. I'm vegetarian, but found some interesting items to purchase.

Here are web sites for some local CSA farms:

E.,
Have you tried a Vitamin Cottage? I find a lot of healthy alternative foods there and they are better than Whole Foods. They have a warehouse that processes there own products and have a nutionist on staff to help.
Good Luck,

I would say that if you cannot find one then maybe try Eggland Best Eggs in the supermarket. Vegetarian fed chickens, Omega 3 and Vitamin E. These are the only ones I will use. I guess I think it is great that you and your mommy friends are doing this however, maybe keep it more realistic to what you can find. I think maybe in the summer there are a lot of farms that open for tours and you could get eggs there, however I personally wouldn't buy stuff other then veggies and fruits from someone I didn't know either, you don't know how they store them, or there is no regulation....just my two cents. I say buy meats from Whole Foods or just get organic if you are that worried too, getting meat from someone that has no regulations could be scary for your family.

If you are interested in local eggs and chicken, I suggest NestFresh Eggs and Red Bird Chicken. Nest Fresh offers organic and all their eggs are Cage Free and Vegetarian Fed. They are located in Broomfield. Red Bird is not organic but has pretty high standards for their birds, and they taste great. You are always going to have to pay more, but these can be found at just about any grocery store. In case you need to know about beef and milk, Go horizon and Coleman.
