To clear airways the most expedient way possible, use Johnson's Vapor bath. It is effective and yet the kiddo doesn't ingest anything. Should take care of the child and make the docs happy.
Does any body know what I can give my one month old baby if he seems to have mucus on his chest when ever he breathes and isn't taking his bottle and when ever he does he is just moving around?

Children this young go to the doctor no matter what!
They will take him today, call asap five minutes ago!
I would go with the suction method and the humidifier. A good way to suction, if you don't have it already, is the nasal aspirator offered by Nosefrida (nosefrida.com). It's very good and works much better than the suction balls. Good luck!
only thing you can do is use a syringe bulb to suck out their nose...saline drops can help to break things up...they won't be as hungry when they have a cold...if they are stuffy, its hard for them to eat, and they have less of an appetite, so that's normal. if it gets too bad, you might want to visit your pediatrician, and make sure its not an infection of some sort...if it is, they can do antibiotics, but if its just a little cold, there's nothing we can do...:( hang in there...its super frustrating, but it will get better! :)
My son had this when he was little too. Running a humidifier in his room really helped him (and still does now..he's 4)
Also, if you can get your baby to sleep on his side, he might feel some relief.
I have a son with chronic lung disorder. When he was that young, metter of fact I still do it, everytime he got congested I would put saline into a nebulizer and that helps open him up. Also, honey in the bottle will help open them up.
My daughter seemed to have that mucus problem as well. My dr said it was a common thing with babies especially in TX due to the allergens in the air. She grew out of it around maybe 2 months or so?
Hang in there!
A humidifier works wonders and the vicks baby rub on chest and feet like someone suggested. It really makes a difference. Also when he is congested its best to replace every other feeding with pedialyte to kinda thin out his congestion is what a nurse would always tell me. Hope he feels better. Keep us updated
Suction, ++ suction. Get a suction ball and saline solution. never is too much when you suction their nose. Also suction their mouth as well. sorry i can not say more!
That sounds like he has reflux. I would talk with you doctor. Both of my children had severe reflux and milk and soy allergies. He is probably squirming because it hurts when he eats. Also congestion is a big sign in reflux.
I would go directly to the doctor - there's not anything you can give a one month old for this sort of thing. When my 3 1/2 year old was only 3 months old, he got sick with RSV and my doctor ended up sending him to Children's Medical Center where he stayed for 12 days - the first 7 he was in intensive care on a breathing machine (intubated) while they did treatments on a regular basis (sucking mucous from his lungs, etc.) until he was all clear and they took him off the breathing machine, brought him out of anesthesia (he was under for the entire time he was on the breathing machine), and he was in a regular room until he would take a bottle again and we went home. He still has to do breathing treatments every so often, if his allergies are acting up or he gets a cold, but we're lucky we don't have asthma in our family so our pediatrician firmly believes he will grow out of this.
That was the most scared I've ever been in my life. Before my son got sick with it, I didn't even know RSV existed but it does and please take the mucous in his chest very seriously - I would never wish anything like what we went through on anyone. Take care - I wish you and your baby the best.
Our daughter did this and our Dr put her on Prevacid for Reflux and overnight she was better. I know this sounds crazy but it was her reflux.
NO HONEY TO A CHILD UNDER ONE YEAR OLD! I'm sorry for the capital letters, but I saw that in some advice someone gave you and that can cause great harm to your child.
Try saline in the nose and then suction it. It is probably what the doctor would say to do, and it even works well on grown ups.
Try Pedialyte, water, and any of the juices for infants. Your baby probably doesn't have an appetite. FYI...formula and any dairy product will thicken the mucous. Consult your pediatrician if your baby's cold gets worse.
If he is conjested you should be able to suction out his nose. You will need to ask your pedi if you can use saline this young. I can't remember now at how many weeks you can start suctioning with saline. Also, if the conjestion is in his chest you may want to just take him to to doctor b/c he is so young. It could be dangerous b/c their airways are so small. Good luck!
You need to get to the doctor ASAP! A one month old with mucus on the chest is very dangerous. I assume that you have not been to the doctor yet because, the doctor would have answered this question for you. Do not give your child any honey. Get a Dr. appt ASAP! Until you ge to the doctor you need to put the saline in his nose and suction it ever 30 minutes to keep anything else from draining into his chest. Turn on the vaporizer, if you have any of the kaz medication stuff, put that in the vaporizer. If you have that Johnson's and Johnson's baby was that is vaoprizing with aloe and stuf, use it, it may help a little. I would be taking his temperature rectally every couple of hours. That young they can get a fever very quickly. I think this is much more dangerous than you realize. If it were my child I would be at the doctor today before the day's end and I would go back to the doctor every other day until the baby was better. They really need to listen to their chest that often and check their ears for infections at that age. This can escalate quickly. If he ever appears to have trouble breathing, ER ASAP! Tell your doctor that he is not eating, they may tell you to give pedialyte, but most likely if he is not eating properly, they will recommend that he be hospitalized and given IV fluids. I would agree. I know it may not seem serious enough for the hospital, but I think I would have to say if it were my child I would insist they be hospitalized, to keep tabs on their checst fluid, breathing, and recieve nutrition via IV. DOCTOR ASAP!
Try the soothing vapor bath in warm water. There is also baby Vicks VapoRub. Rub it on his feet as well as his chest. If it seems to not help, take him to the doctor and make sure he does not have RSV. When my son had the mucous, he was also wheezing. He was over it by the time I talked to the pedi.
I put my kids with their head slightly "downhill." Then pat their backs and chests rhythmically for about 10 min. I do it several times a day and it helps break up the congestion. That with saline and humidifiers takes care of most of the problems at our house.
First I would say go to the dr. If they tell you just suction then I was told this tip that helps it clear quicker. Put the drops in & wait a couple seconds then plug the opposite nostril with your finger & suck the other nostril.
Definitely call your doctor. The baby might need to have some nebulizer treatments (breathing treatments that clear up chest congestion). Usuallly after a couple of treatments the congestion starts getting better. I hope your little one feels better!
sunction and use Vicks Baby Rub on his chest. Also put some on the bottom of his feet then put his socks over it. It helps to thin and clear congestion in the chest. And lay him down at A. incline like on a pillow. It'll help with the drainage.
