I am still new to the Birmingham, AL area. We are wanting to start a family soon and would like to find a good OB GYN. I just don't want to just choose any one and am looking for some direction. I am looking for a doctor that is very good and personable and prefer one that is open-minded to my more natural way of thinking. Unfortunately midwifes are not an option here but would really like to find a doctor that would be good and work with me. Thank you!

What can I do next?

I have two children and have had my services provided by Henderson and Walton which is at St. Vincent’s. My doctor was Dr. C. Jones and I had a very positive experience with the staff and other physicians there. I used the nutritionist, the lab and all services and was very pleased. Hope you find someone you like. I know that is very important.

I just had two babies in the last two years.( have 4 altogether) I use the group at Henderson & Walton where my main doc is Dr. Carol Swindle. Dr. Ingram is also one of the docs in this group, and they each delivered one of my recent babies. The one with Dr. Ingram was natural, (not by choice), but she made me feel at ease and like I could work through it- I DID A GREAT JOB!, and Dr. Swindle has been my doc now for about 15 years. I feel very comfortable with her, and she has always been very personable to me. She delivered the other where I had an epidural.
I also know Dr. Tim Stone (Sharp, Stone, & Goolsby - ###-###-####)-and his family personally. They go to church with me, and I teach his children. He is a wonderful man, and from what I hear, doc as well. I have friends that have used him.I think you would be happy with either of these choices. Good luck to you and your family!

Dr. Ingram at Henderson and Walton is wonderful. I was also looking for a doctor that was open to a natural delivery and she was totally fine with my decision to have my doula present. She never once forced any pitocin or unwanted drugs. I highly recommend her if you are wanting to take a more natural approach to labor and delivery.

I'm also fairly new to the area and I'm 33 weeks along. I started with Henderson and Walton and ended up changing doctors at 20 weeks to Dr. Stone (Sharp, Stone, & Goolsby - ###-###-####) and love him and the staff. Henderson & Walton is huge and I very much felt like a number instead of a patient. However, they came highly recommended when I asked for this same advise so it might be a better fit for you. Dr. Stone is very personable and his nurse is great too. I'm very happy with the change.

I have been with Obgyn Associates of Birmingham for over 15 yrs. located at St. Vincents downtown. I really like everyone in the group. My dr. is Dr. Johnson and if you prefer a female then Dr. Derosier is good one also. I have had 2 children with this group.I am very happy and would 100% recommend them. the website is www.obgynal.com . good luck finding a dr and starting a family.
