Seeking OB with Time to Answer Questions

Hello All,

I have had two miscarriages in the past 2 years and am now 20 weeks pregnant. When we first went to our OB, she was great. She spent so much time with us answering our questions and addressing our concerns. Now, whenever I have a scheduled OB visit, she rushes me out of the office and I don't even have time to ask questions. This is my husband and my first baby so naturally, I have many unanswered questions. I feel like she thinks I'm being a pain. Bottom line, I think it is unacceptable and am seeking a new OB ~ preferably someone who practices and delivers at Presby of Dallas or Plano. I am not opposed to Baylor doctors either...just need some good recommendations because we have only been in the area for 2 years. Also, am I crazy to switch doctors in the middle of a pregnancy? Is this normal for a doctor to take such little time for an existing patient?? Please help!

M.

So What Happened?

McKinneyMom ~ can you tell me more about Dr. Dullye? Does she spend the time with you answering your questions and making sure you feel comfortable before you leave her office? I would really like to stay at Presby of Dallas, if possible.

I don't have an OB recommendation, but I have a wonderful midwife, who takes all the time you need and answers every question (even multiple times b/c I forgot I'd asked it already!). She has a great birthing center in Garland. Her name is Joyce Nelson, and her practice website is: www.fcmcdallas.com. She may also have recommendations for great OBs as well, as she works with and refers to OBs in high risk cases.

And no, it is not crazy to switch docs at this time. Better now than a few weeks before you give birth!!!

If you feel this way in your pregnancy switch doctors. The second half of the pregnancy can be exhausting and you want to have someone who supports you and encourages you.

I love my OB. HE delivered my twins. Dr. Garner at Plano Presby. He has a ton of energy. (he is part of Northlake OB)

Dr. Alvin Gebert. Extremely helpful. Takes all the time he needs to answer questions. Very detail oriented. I have never felt rushed and have been with him through 3 high risk pregnancies. His office is at Presby of Plano.

No you are NOT crazy - you are having a baby, one of the most scary and wonderful things you will ever go through! You definitely deserve your OB/GYN to care enough to take the time with you and answer any and all questions you may have!
I HIGHLY-HIGHLY-HIGHLY recommend Dr. Katrina Walsh (she is at Presby Plano); she's absolutely wonderful, she genuinely cares about her patients and will most definitely take the time with you and will be sure you have all your questions answered and are okay before you leave her office. I've been a patient of hers for 11 years now and will not give her up even though throughout that time I've had insurance plans that she is not on!

No you are not crazy to switch in the middle of a pregnancy, even at 20 weeks. I did that with my first child, exactly at 20 weeks, because my doctor only wanted to talk Maternity clothes with me and got defensive each time my husband asked a question.

I used Dr. Paul B. Payne in Dallas, TX and he delivers at Baylor, but he takes the time to answer your questions. You might have to wait in the waiting room for your turn, but he tries to keep it on schedule

Have you tried to express your concerns to your current Dr.? I think it can be pretty typical when a woman is halfway through her pregnancy and everything is going fine to fly in and out. Do you have all of your questions written down? Maybe you could leave them with her to look over at a convenient and respond to them? I love Dr. Chapman and the other Drs at Health Central Dallas. There number is ###-###-#### if you are still interested in changing doctors.

Have you considered a Mid-Wife? I used Birth and Women's Center in Dallas, close to Baylor. Check them out. www.birthcenter.net

The entire staff was very warm and caring. Answered all my questions and took plenty time with my husband and I during all our visits.

We absolutely love our OB Randy Burt, MD at Plano Presby ###-###-####. My first appointment with him was when I was pregnant with twins, had just found out that one of the heart beats had stopped at 6 weeks and my OB was no longer on my insurance. He was kind, professional and answered my 1,000 questions. He also made me laugh my entire pregnancy as I stressed over the risk of losing the other baby, constantly throwing up and dealt with my nursing woes once she was born. Being in the medical field I am extremely picky. There is not one thing more he or his staff could have done to make my pregnancy and delivery more wonderful. Call Bernetta at his office, tell them you were referred and just ask them whatever you need to. Congratulations on your blessing!

Dr. Suzette Boyd delivered all 5 of my children. She is a wonderful lady & tremendous doctor. She always had time for me and I never cared if she was late to see me because I knew she was spending extra time with someone who needed it. But, if I had an emergency...she always there asap. She delivers at Plano Presby & offices in Frisco. Here is her info.:

Dr MacDonald is exactly who you are looking for! He delivered both of our children and always amazed us with all the attention he gave both my husband and I. He always remembers personal information about our family and always, always, always gives us all the time needed to ask any questions. The crazy thing is he always runs on time! I've never had to wait more that 5 min for an appt, his nurses told us that he only books a limited number of appts a day so that he can give each patient the time they need. He is so knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging, we love him! He even came in on his day off to check on me at the hospital when everything was going great. We can't say enough good things about him! He met with us before we decided to use him as our doctor without a charge so meet with him and you will be sold! =) His office number is ###-###-####

M., I just want to encourage you to "interview" a couple doctors to help you make a decision. I had two miscarriages (1st and last pregnancies), and had 3 perfectly healthy children in between those miscarriages. With my 3rd, we had just moved to Texas so I had to find a new doctor. Half-way through the pregnancy I felt the need to switch doctors due to some complications that were worrisome and I was not getting support/reassurance from my doctor. I went and met with Dr. Rajala and he was so kind, caring, and reassuring that I did go ahead and make the switch mid-pregnancy. I felt that if I were going to switch, I needed a clear understanding of what I was switching to, which is why I wanted to meet with him and explain my situation/concerns. Bottom line, call a couple doctor's offices that were recommended and see if you can schedule a time to meet with the doctor/s to talk about what is going on. I think most doctors would do this and if they won't, I say move on to someone who will.
I wish you all the best.

I absolutely love my OB. She works out of Plano Medical and Plano Presby! I think her main office is out of Plano Medical. Her name is Janelle Watts. She has a wonderful bedside manner. She will sit with ya an answer any and all questions that you may have. I had to have a c-section and since I have never had one before, she took the time to go through the process step by step. Her number is ###-###-#### Good Luck and Congrats!
