Hi there,
I am expecting a baby in September and researching pediatricians in the area. A friend of mine recommended Dr. Kristin Shepherd at the Great Destinations Pediatrics facility in Glendale, AZ. Does anyone else have any experience with this practice and/or this doctor? Thanks,
S.

So What Happened?

Thank you so much, everyone for your helpful responses. We have decided to try Great Destinations Pediatrics and I have set up a date to tour the office and meet with one of the doctors there. There are so many decisions to make and it's a bit overwhelming being new at this. I'm grateful to have a website like this with experienced parents to help me out!! Take care!!

I had my daughter with Dr. kettleman in that office. We loved him. My daughter never saw Dr. kristin Shepherd, but I was pleased with the doctor she had.. Unfortunally I had to change doctors offices due to certain medical coverage... Hope this helps..

Dr. Shephard is pediatrician for both my kids, ages 4 and 2. I absolutely love her. I found her 3 years ago when my insurance changed. My little brother, who's now 10, was a patient of hers. She's honest, trustworthy, calm, and really gentle with the kids. My favorite thing is she always remembers my kid's names and will ask them about the other one. I've been in for nonsense reasons and I've been in for serious illness and she is always respectful and helpful. I have never felt uncomfortable or rushed in her office. I've seen the other doctors in the practice and, for me at least, I've found them good enough in a pinch, but I prefer the care I get from Dr. Shephard. Did I also mention I referred my sister-in-law last year when my nephew was due. They love her, too. One downer though, she'll be on maternity leave in September. Trust me, she's worth the wait.

Hello! We use Dr. Ashley Hineman at Great Destinations and we love her. We have also seen a couple of the other doctors when our daughter was sick and Dr. Hineman was booked up. They have all been great. They are all very easy to talk to, understanding, and helpful. My daughter is my first child, so I called the triage nurse quite a few times and she was always great as well. I would definitely recommend Great Destinations. I hope I helped a little.

I took my daughter to see her for a while (I changed pediatricians because it took me 30 minute to get to her office) and she is very sweet. Nice bedside manner.

I have not heard good or bad about this doctor but do check to make sure that they are allowed to practie at the hospital you will use just in case anything was to ever happen. That way you ensure that your ped is always involved in your case and you won't have to send updates to your practicing ped.
Good Luck and Welcome to Arizona (a little late) :)

Hi S.,
Welcome to AZ! :-) When I had my son, I had Cigna Insurance and went to an awesome Pediatrician. Her name is Ronni Czanowski (I know I spelled her name wrong), and she was great. Our insurance changed so we couldn't continue her services. If you're interested in checking her out, let me know and I will get the proper information for you.
Congrats on your new baby to come, and welcome again to AZ. G.

Hi, I take my kids to see Dr Shepherd. They are almost 4 yrs old and 17 mos old. I also used to be Dr Shepherd's MA. She is awesome and the office is very fun for the kids. Good luck. She has privleges at Thunderbird and Arrowhead so if you are delivering at either hospital. Make sure you let them know who your Pediatrician is. The only thing though is she is also going on Maternity leave starting 8/24/07. But she will be back. Dr Prentice and the other 2 women doctors there are great. Stay away from the man doctor. Good Luck!!

I know its been two months since you've posted this question but I wanted to add my opinion on here about Dr. Shepherd. Both of my children have her as a pediatrician and we absolutly love her. As several others have mentioned, she is wonderful with the kids and quite knowledgable. She has small children of her own, Age 3, 2 and a newborn I believe so she understands what many parents are going through. My sister takes her kids to Gettleman and he is wonderful as well. I hope your visit there went well and you ended up staying with them.

Hi there,
We go to Great Destinations, and we like it there. We've not seen Dr. Shepherd yet, but we have seen Dr. Prentice, Dr. Hineman, Dr. Gettleman and Dr. Lombard. All are good. I have two little ones under 3 yrs old, and we've had a great experience there. I really like how they have a well child waiting room and a sick child waiting room too. And thy're pretty nice too. If you want, you could go and check out the place. I'll bet they would give you a tour and you could even meet the drs if you asked. They're also open on Saturdays for a few hours for sick appointments. I hope that helped! Have a great day, and congratulations! :) Having a baby is wonderful!

Hi S. -
We have a lot in common!!
Both my husband and I are from PA/NY and just got back from vacationing at the Jersey Shore. So, I know what it feels like to be unfamiliar with drs and services.
In addition, both my girls go to Dr. K. Shepherd at Great Destinations. We have had a very good experience there. They are prompt with appt times and good with follow up when you call with questions when baby is sick.
I hope this helps you out!
