If you are reading to, talking to, and exposing your daughter to life outside of television she won't need a tutor. Also, as she moves through school don't stop helping her with homework or assuming she getting it on her own. Again the best way to help her through school is to read, read, and talk, talk to her about all kinds of things, this build background knowledge. I am a special education teacher and believe me I know which students spend quailty time with their parents.

Hi, My son had tutoring after Kindergarten. He was a little behind in reading and his teacher offered to tutor him over the summer. She was great and I did see improvement, but the biggest improvement came from him. I'm not sure if it was the nightly reading, daily reading or his maturity level. Probably a combinatition. I personally don't think your daughter is too young for tutoring. It's important they don't get behind the other kids, it's too hard for them to catch up. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi T.,
My daughter is 7 and was having some trouble in Math. I talked to her teacher about getting a tutor and she said that some concepts will come with age (she's 7 and in second grade, so a young 2nd grader). She just told me to work with flash cards with her to get her additions and subtractions down and the rest would come. She was right!! Also, sounds like you are just looking to give your daughter the best opportunity, maybe she's not needing extra help right now... from things I've read, unless kids need the specific tutoring, it's really not necessary. Good luck!

No, six years old is not too early. School can be especially overwelming for some kids and as a result, some kids respond better to one on one tutoring. Tutoring for my son has allowed him to feel more confident about schooling in both reading and math. However, I strongly believe a tutor be familiar with your daughter's school and the standards addressed in your child's kindergarten class. Ask your child's teacher for names of good tutors.
