freecycle.org
Get signed up in your local area and post a request. Everything on freecycle must be given away free and must be in usable condition. (if it's trash it goes in the trash!)
We furnished our new apartment with 14 dollars at the local thrift store and the good people on freecycle!
ANYONE may join and income doesn't matter.
You can also try Once Upon a Child stores. They sell all kinds of gently used children's items, including furniture, although you have to check back often. The "good" stuff tends to go really fast.
Try Craigs list. They even have free stuff....
Try craigslist.com it is really good if you are looking for absolutely anything from funiture to home decor, even clothes!
