Hi- Wondering if there are any Moms that have a child with Sensory Processing Disorder? Or, if anyones has even heard of it. Would like to know what they are doing to help their child...especially when it comes to homework.

What can I do next?

My daughter is almost 4 years old and has SPD. We had an OT working with her as an infant and she seems better, but the true test will be when she hits school. I would love to hear more about your Daughter's SPD and how she is doing in school, what therapies, etc...Please feel free to e-mail me!

Dear A.,

I haven't had any actual experience with this disorder, but if I were you, I would go on the internet and search for information.

I remember studying about a technique for helping dislexic, (sorry about the spelling) people from Australia and another very good idea about teaching children to read using their own talents. So maybe they have something on the web about Sensory Processing Disorder. I have noticed that our minister is dislexic and has overcome it. I can tell because of being a teacher so long ago, and you never get over paying attention to people.

Could your doctor be talking about autism? That is a sensory problem too.

That is all that I can think of. Good Luck and never stop trying to get more information. Go to the AMA and the CDC websites also.

Sincerely, C. N.

Hi A.,

I actually just put a request out there myself for this same issue. It posted on 2/7/07 I believe, if you would like to take a look at the responses I recieved. My oldest daughter (4 yrs old) is suspected to be dealing with SPD. I say suspected because further evaluations are in progress. Take a look at the request I posted and you can see if any of the responses are helpful for you. It sounds like there are a few of us anyway who are starting to research this. I wish you well.

Sincerely,
J.

Hi A. - My name is K. and my son Gabriel was diagnosed with SPD on October. I have started a parents support group and am more than happy to tell you more about it. And if you have anyone else let them know. I have had had a tone of exprience dealing with Therapist, schools and so forth. Please email me at ____@____.com Let me know how old your child is and a little bit about they type of SPD he has.

There is no support group for SPD children and parents here in San Diego, so I decided to start one! I hope to hear from you soon!

Sincerely,
K. Philipp

Hi there A....

I hope you got some of this sorted out. My little guy is nearly 4 and has the sensory issues associated with Autism. There are some great OTs and PTs out there...you just have to know where to find them :)

Drop me a line if you are still having problems locating help!
