Honestly, if you wanted to tone up or burn additional calories while walking around, I think you could get better results by wearing normal athletic shoes and a set of old fashioned ankle weights.

HI L.,

They are not a gimmick. The shape-ups are a knock off of the MBT. The MBT is manufactured by a swiss company that has patterned the shoe to replicate the walking patterns of the Masai tribe in Africa. If you know anything about this tribe, they have no foot, leg or back problems and they can walk for days with no discomfort. Medical facilities all over the world (except in the US) recommend them. The create a sense of walking in sand where your posture is corrected and there is no stress on your feet. I have two pairs of MBTs, my sister has one and my husband has three. The do tone the muscles because the leg and butt muscles are actually working to protect the back. My legs look incredible, better than they did when I was younger. Walking in these shoes is equivalent to jogging in regular ones.

I wear them whenever I can. The only time I can't wear them is when I am working on a ladder around the house. I'm not heavy enough to balance properly when I'm climbing. My sister and husband don't have this problem.

Hope I helped!

M.

Hi L.,

I have been wearing them for several months now abd the info Mimi gave you says it all. I noticed that after about 8 weeks my calves were EPIC! I mean, seriously, they were really toned. I have been walking religiously since I was 2 months postpartum and my daughter is now 14 months. There was absolutely no difference in my calf muscles until I started wearing the shape ups. I didn't change my routine one bit. I only wear them when taking my morning walk with my daughter (we go about 4 miles five days a week). My butt is now finally starting to perk up too. I would really recommend them. Not sure that I have "lost weight" per say but I am definately more toned. Also - before baby I used to live at the gym. I was super in shape but as my priorities have changed I have not once gone to the gym since having my baby. I have to say that my legs look better from the shape ups and walking outside than any of the rigourous workouts I did at the gym (with a trainer). I say get them!

I just got a pair a few days ago and LOVE them! I can actually feel it on the backs of my legs. I hadn't bought them before cuz I figured they were mainly a hoax, but my sister bought them and loved them so I took the plunge. They're SUPER comfy too. I wear mine around the house and stuff for the extra workout. The first day I went grocery shopping and by the time my cart was full, I realized I forgot batteries, and my legs were getting so tired on the backs of them that I actually debated walking to the other side of the store to get them because I was hurting! Definitely a good buy. And by the way, I'm 5'4" at 123 pounds, so for me to say they work is a pretty good sign, cuz I'm already in halfway decent shape to start with! I got mine at Kohls on sale, plus had a 20% discount, so ended up getting them for about $85.

i have them, they are not going to produce any real results but I do notice that when i wear them i feel more than when i dont. if you can afford the splurge then go for it, they are around 100!!! I got mine at bobs and used some coupons so I got like 30 off and it was a bday gift for me. overall i do like them, they are mostly comfortable, I feel something when I wear them but i doubt they will produce any real results on their own.

I haven't tried them, but I've heard they are pretty much a gimmic. The reason you are working more is because they are keeping you off balance. I've heard a 15 minute walk in regular shoes will do the same as wearing shape-ups.
