Sharing a Birthday Party with My Husband

My husband and I are going to be 30 soon. Our birthdays are less than a month apart. We both agreed to do something special with our friends because we will be 30, but we didn't want to have two big bashes so close together. We didn't want to do that to our friends (which are all mutual friends, basically), and we don't have that kind of money, either.

We are looking for a "reasonable" budget. and we are looking for this to happen late april.

Just asking to see if any one has any ideas on what we should do. Some of our friends are single, some married, some with kids- not all of them are around our age- some are a tad bit younger and some are much older. All of our friends are friends of his and mine. Some know each other, and some friends have never met. We did a dave and busters thing before- but I don't think I want that again.

Has anyone done this?

What can I do next?

in my family of 4, our birthdays are just 6 weeks apart....beginning to end!

We combine birthdays quite often. I have found that an open house is the easiest to do. Have a couple of crockpots going, lots of munchies, appetizers, etc.....a good selection of drinks.....cake.....& you're good to go! Add some fun decorations & some good music.....& you'll have it all nailed!

On the flip side....next year, my Mom will be 70 & I will be 50 (aaargh). I have flat-out told my family that I DO NOT want a party. I want to travel with my Mom.....& that's it! Well, actually, I said, "put the money on me....forget feeding a whole crowd!"

What about a dueling piano bar?? I did that for my bday last year and it was a BLAST! I'm a huge fan of live music and it was so fun to sit with my friends, drink and be silly. Somehow (and this really is a miracle because I have horrible stage fright) I was persuaded to go up on the "stage" and dance and sing to Shania Twain's "Feel Like a Woman." It was a fun night!

What about a baseball game? Or a fondue restaurant?

i love this site because some here is always going through the same thing that i am.

It isn't a joint party but my hubby turns 40 in May and i got it in my head that a "good wife" would throw a surpise party. I have no idea where to have it or how to do it. I am not friends with his friends and he has a TON of male and female friends some his drinking buddies and some his church friends and pastor, some people i have met once at a hs reunion and professional work friends. I have no idea if it's ok to mix all these people and i am terrifed of crowds so i don't want to have pressure for me to be the hostess. ugg it's stressing me out. I'll be interested to hear your responses and hopefully i can steal some great idea.

How about an open house style party. Serve appetizers, an alcoholic drink, a non, with cup cakes. That would be fun. The older people will leave earlier the younger ones can at longer!

Hi,

I have not shared a birthday with my husband, but I did throw a party for him, my step father and my nephew (when he was 2) so I had a variety of age ranges. I did this when we were living in our condo and there was a club house that I rented. They already had chairs and tables. I set up music (we have equipment like a DJ has) and had a couple of VERY close friends help me make big trays of hot dishes. I also had cold platters of meat and cheese. We had pin the tail on the donkey for my nephew and his little friends and we had pin the tail on the woman for the big guys! Everyone had a fun time and mixed and mingled. For my husbands 30th I threw him a surprise party in our back yard of our house. It was at the end of June so the weather was nice. I rented tables and chairs, again made hot & cold platters. People played volley ball and just had a good time.

Hope this helps!

Have a party at home. If the weather is nice, have a BBQ.
