Short of Breath & Tight Chest

I had an EKG and Chest X-Ray at my physical a little over a month ago and all tests were normal. Yesterday, I started feeling a tightness in the chest and I feel short of breath. Woke up this morning and I still feel like that. Should I just wait it out or is this something that needs to be checked out by the dr despite my normal test results?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks Ladies. Went to the Dr this afternoon and got another EKG done. Normal. Dr. said it sounded like it was from stress since I've been getting headaches frequently this week too. I AM stressed so I'm inclined to believe it. Thanks again!

It all depends on your age. If you are on oral contraceptives, you may be at risk for blood clots in the lungs and legs; asthma can also have similar symptoms; did you recently have a baby?
I would be cautious to dismiss these symptoms as stress alone; the mentioned studies are not enough to rule out a clot or a potential asthma attack.
I hope this helps...

It sounds like a stress reaction to me---I think it would help to see a chiropractor. Your ribs and diaphragm may be out of alignment and that would make it feel like it was hard to breath. You could also be coming down with something. It wouldn't hurt to call your doc and explain your symptoms just to be sure. If you had these tests last month based on something other than a routine physical, then you best get it checked out. Better to ask and have it be nothing, than not to ask and have it be something.

Although stress and anxiety can mimic heart attack, I would get myself checked out NOW. Not something to mess with.

were you feeling this way and that is what prompted your physical? I definitely think these symptoms do not need to go ignored. You should let your dr know asap.

What prompted the EKG and X-ray to begin with? If there are pre-existing conditions, check it out immediately. Better safe than not. It could be anxiety from the tests, but either way, since it's lasted so long - call your doctor ASAP.

How is your iron level? I had this happen and I was very anemic. Went from work in ambulance to ER and had EKGs and other tests run. So don't put it off. Better safe than sorry even if it costs you out of pocket from your insurance company.

Are you taking any medications, antibiotics? Any change in your diet? Your doctor may not have asked about these... mine didn't and I decided to take myself off something (with the permission of my doctor) and my tight chest/shortness of breath went away. (I had an EKG too and it turned out normal)

At least call the Dr and let them know your symptoms.

If all tests were normal, think about what's going on in your life. Stress and anxiety can play havoc with our health and the symptoms of a panic attack are very similar to what you are describing. I know!

Women do not have heart attacks like a man. We usually would feel an upper abdominal pain, like a stomach ache or back pain high up between shoulder blades. Sounds more like an anxiety stress attack. Never hurts to call doc, since he/she just saw you. Good luck, hope you feel better.
