Should I Just Go for It?????

okay, I know a lot of women say they hate their hair...but yeah, i hate my hair. it's not really a fair statement, my hair is thick but not irratatingly so, easy to manage etc....it's really the fact that that I am sooooooooo bored with it and really have always wanted to do something really daring or wild to it!!! right now it is short, about to my chin in the front, maybe a little past and shorter in the back. on a trip back home to visit family last month I asked my mom to cut my hair. she had cut it perfectly the last time she was out here back in march. well, she obviously forgot how she cut it because it was supposed to be pretty short in the back and then taper down evenly longer in the front and it should have been cut super short right at the nape of my neck but at the top back part kind of longer...i know i am doing a really crappy job of explaining it, but honestly when cut right it looks super cute and i love it....well, she prety much just SHAVED the lower back part of my hair and left the rest of it longer. looks okay i guess.

so there is the boring back story and here comes the more questiony part. Have you ever just cut your hair super short or pretty short or did anything just crazy and wild and ended up loving it? or did it and hated it? plus, even though i would really like to just cut it shorter, kind of choppy with layers maybe semi spikiy but not like man hair cut short. the other issues is my face shape. i have a round face and i'm overweight. so i dont know how ridiculous I would look with really short hair. So, what have you done with your hair that at first maybe you were like WHOA but then LOVED it???? or if the opposite happened what is your story??? should I just go for it, I mean it's just hair and it will grow back to it's not like it will be permanant.

TIA ladies!!!

What can I do next?

I got a pixie cut and LOVED it. A haircut never looked so good on me. I got so many compliments. What I hated, was the growing out process. Thank goodness my hair grows silly fast, because those awkward growing out stages...yikes, they were bad!! I will probably never get it cut that short again, even though it looked great. It's just too hard to grow out well.

I don't like really short hair on myself. The shortest I have ever been, that I loved, was a longer a-line cut (the shortest length in the back was at about where my ears sit and longest was to my shoulders) . Any shorter and I feel bigger then I really am (my face is round and I am over weight). My best friend however (round face and overweight as well)...loves it short. Our whole friendship she tries and tries to grow it out, then once it hits just past her shoulders.....she chops it all off. The shortest shes gone it a pixie cut. She's also had different lengths of a-lines and short/shaggy.
I always laugh when she tells me she's growing it out....I know within 6 months it will be chopped. If you're not really picky about your hair, go for it.

I shave my head every 10 years or so (okay, techinically about 1/4 inch long). I've had hair down to my waist. I've been every color in the rainbow and I've been absolutely natural. I've had trendy cuts, chic cuts, fun cuts, all kinds. I've relaxed my hair various different ways (I have natural ringlets). I've worn my hair curly, straight, wavy.

I've loved and hated all of them at various times for various reasons. When I start to hate my hair, I change it. Having someone I TRUST cut/color is absolutely vital, however.

I have been trying to grow out my hair for 13 years. I cut my hair when I'm stressed out and need catharsis. Which is once every six months or so.

I'm with Bug on this one. I had short hair, and did enjoy it. Growing it out was... tedious.

I say, heck, GO FOR IT! What do you have to loose - you don't like your haircut now, so you may as well try something new. Worst that happens, you don't like it. Oh well! It grows.

I used to have my hair short, I liked it because it was easy. Then my daughter begged me to let it grow up. I love it soooo much more long. It is also easier. Christine likes to remind me, remember when you had that awful soccer mom cut. :(

I also never have the time to get my hair cut as much as is needed for short hair.

I went from shoulder length to a VERY short pixie...very textured on top but very short on the sides. I have never had more compliments in my life and I am 51. It makes me look both more polished and powerful in a strange way. I get stopped by strangers at least once a week. My best advice is make sure you go to a stylist who knows you don't want to look like someone who has given up on their hair...just akin a fresh approach.

I will say that I feel like I never leave the house without SOME makeup if it's not just mascara and LARGE earrings. Jewelry seems to take on a more important role with hair this short. The trade is definitely worth it.

Be ready for vey frequent haircuts....

I did, my daughter is a stylist and she about died when I showed her the cut I wanted!! If you want to see a picture of it email me at ____@____.com I think it is something you might like from what you were describing. It will grow back, even if you cut it off!!

I have always had long, slightly curly hair. I cut it once when I was 9 and cried for days. However, when I was 29, I tried an at-home hair straightener. It FRIED my long hair. I had no choice but to go to a salon and have them cut off as much of the dead hair as possible. My hair was seriously less than an inch long when I left the salon. But, I LOVED it! (I'm also overweight and have a very round face, and it looked great.) It is by far one of my most favorite haircuts I have ever had. I still keep it short now (not that short, though), and can't imagine having long hair again. Good luck. I say go for it. If you don't like it, it will grow back eventually.
