Not sure if this will help but I did a few things with my son to keep from having ear infections. He had them often but I was usually able to catch them early. One thing his doctor recommended was to tilt their bed slightly. He had me put a pillow under his mattress on the side his head goes on when he sleeps. It helps with the drainage when allergies or other start acting up/flaring up. This helped alot.
I've also done ear candleing on my son. I started when he was 5 bc I couldn't ever get him to blow his nose. You can buy them at Central Market in the Healthy Living Dept or usually there are people who have them and will do it. For them to do it is usually about $25 or $30. This pulls any pollen and bacteria out of the sinus cavities and can prevent an infection. My son likes it because after each ear is done the lady lets him look to see what came out. This usually takes about 20 minutes for a child. It's safe and it doesn't hurt. If you'd like to try this let me know and I'll give you the ladies info that we go to. Both my son and I had bad allergies and would get sick a lot and now we don't. I swear by this method and recommend it for anyone.
