Hi Ladies!
I am trying to find out if I am having side effects from the medicine I am taking to lower my cholesterol, Lipitor. I'd appreciate you, dear moms, share with me your experience with this medicine or another one. I am just noticing some things that may be side effects of Lipitor. I feel very tired, fatigued, exhausted in a very unusual way, and my thyroid is working fine, just checked it. I have cramps in legs and hands, more headaches than usual, mild and dull pain/discomfort in my upper right side of my abdomen (I had my gallbladder removed 3 years ago). I am making appointment with my doctor, but it is always good to know other experiences so I have more questions to ask and find out more.
Thanks in advance and have a great and safe Fourth of July!!!

What can I do next?

I was on it for several years and then began having severe memory problems and joint pains.
I drove down a road I know like the back of my hand and for 10 min I had no idea where I was.
I bought things at the super market thinking I had run out the night before and when I got home I had 5 jars of mayo in the cupboard - I could NOT remember what I needed and I could not remember all the lists I needed to remember anything at all.
Every time I stood up I had severe pains in my hips and my hands were killing me.
It cleared up when my mail order refill was late and I ran out for 2 weeks, and then started up again when I resumed taking it.
My doctor did not think my symptoms were related to Lipitor.
I told him when I take it I limp, when I don't take it I don't limp.
My anagram scores were raised by %600 (I could remember how to spell) when I was off the drug.
Case closed as far as I'm concerned.
I'll never take any sort of statin ever again.
It's a quality of life thing.

There is a potentially serious side effect with Lipitor that includes muscle cramps... I would talk to your doctor about that.

my DH had to change his cholesterol med due to extreme issues with symptoms such as yours. Within one week, he was back to being perky.

Good luck!

Fortunately, I don't have to take Lipitor, but my mom's doctor wanted her to take it and she refused. He was very insistent even though she was concerned about the side affects. She decided not to take it. She had her gall bladder removed in February, but other than that, she is really quite healthy.

My doctor just put me on a blood pressure medication and I'm not sure I'm going to be able to stick it out. It doesn't make me feel good at all. I have a follow up appointment soon.

Some people tolerate medications well and some don't. It's very important to follow up with your doctor so they know what symptoms you are experiencing. They might be able to have you try something else.

Best wishes!

i started taking lipitor when the doctors were still saying 'perfectly safe! no side effects!'
i had KILLER fatigue, leg cramps and weight gain.
'can't be the lipitor,' said they. 'you MUST stay on the lipitor!'
took myself off the freakin' lipitor and all the side effects went away.
now of course they warn you about all those exact things.
i will not be a guinea pig again.

While I don't have any personal experience, this drug is on my pharmacology test on Thursday, and normal side effects are gastrointestinal issues, headaches, muscle cramps and tiredness. But yes, if I were you I would definitely go in and talk to your doc as it sounds like it's not a good fit for you.

I've had no side effects from it. I take a megadose due to genetic testing showing a predisposition to hardening of the arteries. It has also lowered my bad cholesterol/triglycerides nicely.

My doctor did recommend taking the brand name vs. the generic as she says that her patients who switched from brand to generic have shown worse cholesterol numbers on their 6 month follow-ups. I don't know if brand vs generic would make a difference in side effects.
