so with this wonderful blizzard of 2011 that we are all enjoying (not) - does anyone know of a person who does snow shoveling or plowing at all ? im not looking for a perfect spotless driveway i would just like to be able to get in and out of my driveway. i may be able to do enough just to get out (cant do much with a herniated disc in back & a 2 y/o running around inside) but would like to maybe to have someone come by and just do one sweep of it. if someone knows of someone who may do it on the side that could be of help in that area could you pass along the info to me. there are no teenage kids in the neighborhood that come around so i thought i would try here - thanks much

What can I do next?

Id say check Craig's List. Im in NH and I know quite a few people posting their services there.
Or maybe you can put a sign out by your drive way that says
STOP HERE
PLOW PLEASE

I would second the landscaping companies in your area. I live in MA and I know that many of them around us offer snowplowing. The guy we use charges $27.50/storm. He usually times it so he only comes once. He will come and do clean up like the end of the driveway after the storm for no additional cost.

Check the bulletin board at your local grocery store...when I lived in heavy snow land there was always flyers up advertising people with plows offering to help for some extra cash.

Good Luck!

Can't help you but we have the same problem in NJ. I had back surgery a few years ago and I just can't shovel (although I did try to remove about 6-8 inches last week with bad results). My husband has back & neck problems and can just about clear the snow off the cars, but that's it. Our usual snow removal guy quit just before a big storm we had in December - thanks! Since then we have paid $240 for ONE storm. Needless to say, we aren't calling those people again. The last guy charged us $75 which was a little better. We did have offers from 3 other people who just knocked on our door - the first time this has happened in 18 years of owning our home! We had already called the $75 guy, so we were expecting him and felt it would be rude to cancel.

Try calling LANDSCAPER companies in your area. Many of them do snow removal in the winter. Having said that, a few early calls to some in my area gave me some hope, but most of them didn't return my call or said they would give me an estimate and never called me back. Good luck.

Call your local highschool and ask the guidance counselor for some recommendations...I found great babysitters this way. Or advertise in craigslist.
