Growing up my mother always wanted me to wear white socks because you feet can breath better. Now that I have kids is it really necessary for them to wear white socks all the time? Their feet do sweat at the first sight of summer or any activity. They are both hot natured as well as my husband. So are white socks better for their feet? Will colored socks cause problems due to the sweat?

Thanks,

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

When it is warm outside he doesn't even bother to wear any shoes and if he does they are his flip flops. Thanks for the advice. I really didn't have a clue on this.

I don't think there is any difference between white socks and colored socks? I think fabric dye has come a long way since our parents were little.

Socks are now made out of a range of materials that keep feet cool and will wick sweat away. I do think socks keep shoes from being stinky. My son, who has sweaty feet all the time, wears a 100% cotton sock (white). The dyes in colored socks used to be an issue. I don't think that's the case anymore. During the summer, why not find some athletic sandals so socks aren't necessary. I can usually find some on sale at Kmart or Target or you can go full price and get some Tevas. Also, at the sports stores there are sports socks in a wide range of colors that will keep feet drier than regular cotton socks but they can be a little pricey.

the color of socks have no affect on breatheability.

I believe color socks used to be only made in dress socks which contain nylon based material. Cotton socks where made in white.

I actually prefer the black cotton sports socks because they don't show stains.

Shoes will also affect sweat control, cheaper shoes typically don't allow proper air flow.

oh, the days of junior high gym class and white socks......

I'd believe if there were truth to the old wives tale, you wouldn't see avid runners in black socks that are so popular right now (most running stores carry black socks in equal quantity to white these days).

I personally like to get the cute ones for my kids from Old Navy in different colors - during the summer, I think white looks better, but I also don't want my kids to look like their grandfather with white socks to their knees.

We actually tend to have the kids in Crocs, water shoes, etc. during the summer because that's what they prefer, and they're easier to clean off if sand, dirt, mulch, etc. gets in them.

When they wear running shoes, we do have some ankle height white socks to absorb the perspiration and prevent the smell in the shoes.

I could wear socks 365 days/year and always have to sleep in them. My husband prefers to be barefoot as do my kids. I always give them the option. Yesterday I came home to my son in athletic shorts, plaid shoes and gray socks with balls on them. Oh, well.

their feet usually smell more with colored socks but my daughter still wants to wear them even though her feet smell worse than the rest of us that wear white socks.
