Someting to Do

Put him in the stroller and go for a walk? I live near you (Fontana) and the weather is beautiful lately! Is there a park near by? I would take a walk to the park.

Clear off the areas around your kitchen sink and throw a couple of towels on the floor. Fill the sink partway with sudsy water (or just regular water). Throw in some scoops, spoons, cups, etc. for him to play with (make sure they are plastic so they won't break). Roll up his sleeves, and push a dining room chair or stool up to the sink & let him play.

Make an indoor sand box with uncooked white rice and a cardboard or plastic box with a lid.

Do a scavenger hunt outside (give him things to look for); get him a shovel to push the snow; race him along the sidewalks or let him ride his trike along the sidewalks.

Get some paper and watercolors or crayons or markers & some colored paper/doodads & a glue stick and make 'art projects'.

Put away some of his toys he's not playing with. The middle of next month, put away some more and take out some ones you boxed up and they will seem newer/more interesting.

Invite another kid & the kid's mom over for a playdate; set up one or two playdates per week or every other week.

We do laundry basket races (cardboard boxes also might work)--put a stuffed animal in the baskets, and then you & he race by pushing the baskets to a "finish line."

Let him help you with some basic stuff--sorting laundry, getting dishes out of the dishwasher, helping cook (pouring ingredients into bowls, etc).

If you have a library near you, ask if they have a toddler storytime.

My two year old loves painting. Try some water colors. Playdoe is fun too. The park is always fun if you have one within walking distance. Set out a blanket in your backyard if you have one and take out cars and play with them.

Buy a cheap pack of balloons, blow one up, and count how many times you and he can bounce it in the air without it hitting the floor.
Take all the pillows off the sofa and make an obstacle course.
Pull the chairs from under the dining room table, throw a blanket over the top and read books in your new fort.

If you can get a sand and water table, there is so much to put in that. rice, sand, oatmeal, pom poms......... just like preschool :0)
Make pupets out of socks and do a puttet show.
Make a hand made musical things and do a band around the house. You can get toliet paper rolls and fill them with beans and shake them. Pots and Pans for pounding ect.. play music load and dance.
Make some art projects for gifts for Easter. His hand prints or feet and make a cologe thing and frame it and you have gifts for people when your ready.
Obstacle coarse out side and time him.

On a side note....maybe through a moms group you can contact and get in a playgroup with some other mommies and they can come for playdates or help with transportation for events. Your local Moms group can be found on line through national moms group.

Mondays- go to the park
Tuesday- set up an art area enen if it is a card table and a box full of markers and crayons and create art work.
Wednesday- create a play and act out
Thusday- dance around the house
Friday- out of ideas

Is there a bus stop near your house? It would be a great adventure for your S. just to ride the bus somewhere and back! You could go to the library perhaps? Most libraries have toddler time or story time or music time for little ones.

Maybe he needs something challenging. Have you tried one of those Reading programs? Teaching him to read would be a good diversion for both of you. Give him something that looks really interesting to him - something with writing on it, so he has a "goal" to work toward. Start with something simple like a toddlers story book he hasn't seen yet. But, have patience - don't forget you already know how - those funny things called 'letters' are completly new to him.
