Son Rolling over During the Night.

My son has recently learned to roll over from his back to his stomach. Great! Sort of. He gets onto his stomach and is alright for a little bit, but then he freaks out. He's been rolling onto his stomach during the night. I used to put those cushions around him but he rolls right out of them. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to keep him on his back or side?

Hi A.. I just emailed this same question on this site last month or so ago. My 5 mo daughter was doing the same thing in the middle of the night. she hated to be on her belly. You just have to go in and roll him back over or try to let him figure out how to roll back over himself. I know its hard but he will learn to do it. Now my daughter is 6 1/2 mo and when I go in to check on her she is sound asleep on her belly. Sometimes in the morning she will wake up crying because she is on her belly. I don't understand that cause she can roll back over now. Just give some time and you guys will be ok. Take care, S.

Hi A.,
I would make sure his crib is free of extra pillows, blankets, stuffed animals, bumper pads, etc. and just let him go...he will get used to it--as long as he can turn his head from side to side, I think he would be OK. Make sure he;s getting lots of tummy time through the day to build up the neck muscles. I don't know of any way or anything you can use to keep him on his back if he is rolling right over the triangle things. Also, do you have a video monitor? I loved mine and it was really worth every cent so you can keep a close eye (and ear) on him at night. Good luck!

Leave him on his stomach! 99% of babies will end up sleeping on their stomachs once they figure out how to roll over. This is completly normal. If he freaks out, then you need to put him on his stomach more often during the day. He will get used to it and be fine, I think you should take the cushions out of the crib now so they don't become a hinderance to him. He will do what he wants now that he can roll over, it is how babies are =)

They have sleep positioners that you can buy that are very inexpensive. My niece was all over the place, and my sister in law's pediatrician told her to get one to keep her on her back.

Here's a link to one on Amazon:

Oh, they grow so fast...There isn't anything you can do about it. Now that he can do it it's going to happen all of the time. He'll get used to it. Just make sure the crib of free of anything that he could get tangled up in. Before you know it he'll be rolling the other way.
