Have your child been referred to Pediatric Neurodevelopmental Disabilities, Behavioral Pediatrics, and Neurodevelopmental Disabilities for routine child health exam? If so, please share your experience.

Added: son speech delay at 3rd bday, lots of words but no sentences, distracted if not intereded, when interested focused, tough, stubborn and strongwill personality. Very curious and excited, loves books. Thank you.

first your question doesn't make sense, or maybe it's the grammar throwing me off.

if you want help from us or if you want to help your child ( I'm assuming here that this is your child although I really have no idea from how you phrased this) you need to look honestly at what they symptoms are, is there a speech delay, is there some sort of hormone issue, are there motor skills problems, not reaching milestones, signs of autism???. DR's don't refer for the heck of it, and if they are referring you to a specialist it isn't for a routine health exam It's to look more closely at a certain area, ( I'm assuming again but it sounds like some sort of autism concern because of the behavioral ped you mentioned. )

Yes my dd was referred to some sort of specialist and had an MRI on her 2nd birthday. She had very alarming symptoms, we took her to our ped, he referred us to a local specialist and the local specialist thought that to cover all our bases we needed an MRI to pin point where in the brain the issues were and if they were isolated issues, so we drove 2 hrs to a ped hospital and had a neuro something or other dr take the scan and read it to us.
in her case, the brain scan did show us the cause of her physical symptoms but they were limited to the motor area not intelligence or speech related.

I simply can not understand how ignorance and not wanting to label children helps anyone let alone your child.
See the specialist, they will either reassure you or they will be able to give you the info/help you need to best help your child.

Please add more info, let us know if this is your personal experience or if you are relating something second hand.

I think what you are asking is to be seen or referred to a Developmental Pediatrician, who in turn can make the necessary referrals to either Pediatric Neurologists, or other developmental services.

And for a routine exam? No, that should not happen. There would be an underlying concern to be referred.

Start with your pediatrician.

Ditto Mum4ever. Do you have a children's hospital in your area? If you and your ped are worried about the child, the ped can give you a referral to a developmental ped at the children's hospital.

Why would you go to a specialist for routine care? That,is absurd.
