Speed Racer Movie??

Since someone recently asked about the Chihuahua movie I thought I'd ask about this one too. Speed Racer is rated PG and I'm not really interested in watching it myself, but my kids want to see it. It would be the older ones who are 8 and 9, not the little ones. I would just like to know if it's appropriate for that age. Since I don't care to see it, and I don't want to be in the room I won't be there to turn it off if there are any sexual scenes. Kissing is ok, but anything suggestive is not. I never even watched the Speed Racer cartoon as a child, so I have no idea what to expect. What are your thoughts if you've seen it? Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks so much! Exactly what I was looking for. Since there is no school tomorrow I will be letting the kids watch Speed Racer tonight.

Just saw it last night w/my almost 7 year old. No sexual scenes really, just one kiss at the end. There is one scene though where they show what piranas could do to a hand. Not really a big deal. The race scenes have a little violence, but you don't see anyone get killed or any blood. All in all, I would say that it's ok. Good moral at the end.

My 5 year old saw it on a special Matthew daddy day. My husband said 1/2 way thorugh he lost interest (unlike Cars when he sat still the entire movie and he was only 3 at the time! The content was fine, nothing that mad my husband thought was questionable. 8 and 9 is the right age for it.

Go to www.screenit.com. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "No Thanks". You'll then be able to navigate to their EXTREMELY in-depth movie reviews. They will tell you every instance of tense music, someone smoking, questionable language, even scenes that might need discussing afterwards (a single-parent family, etc.)

I highly recommend this site! Actually, I usually screen most of the movies I watch, too! I hate wasting two hours on a movie I'll regret in the morning!

Try looking it up on commonsence media's web site. They try to make you better understand the content and actual age rating for movies.

Hi, I use kidsinmind.com - It rates on a scale of 1 to 10, the separate elements of movies that make them adult content, such as language, sexual content, and violence. Hope this helps.

I don't mean to sound nasty but whether you want to see it or not, you should. They are your children. Why would you trust others as to what is appropriate for your children to see and then leave them alone with it? If you don't plan on watching it with them, then I suggest not letting them watch it regardless of the feedback you get. What one might not find offensive, someone else might.
