Just tell your OB that you're unsure of when you conceived. Get a blood test to be sure and once that's positive they'll do an ultra-sound for dating the EDD.
The past 6 months I have had really unusual periods, where I start spotting for 3-5 days and then I have my 'normal' period that last anywhere from 3-5 days. Well this past week I came down with a yeast infection, which I've only had one other in my whole life, so I thought something was weird. Thought maybe my hormones were out of whack maybe I should test and see if we're pregnant. Instantly a positive lined showed up--yay looks like we're probably pregnant--I plan on tested again tomorrow. to make sure :)
But my question is when was my last period---the day I started spotting---or the day when I resumed the heavier flow? Hmmmm now that I've typed it out, I don't know if it was spotting necessarily but more of a really light period? But is that possible really light for 5 days then a heavier period for another 3-5? Kind of nervous about the whole spotting/lighter period thing, I've never had that problem ever, but figured it was an age thing? My girlfriend said she always spotted and didn't have any problems with pregnancies? This will be my 3rd, and so far this month I haven't had any type of bleeding (that's a good thing, I'm sure, right?).
My OB won't see us for our first visit until after 8 weeks, unless I really don't know when I conceived. But I do have a general idea I think, so I won't have a chance to ask her until closer to the eight week mark....

I'd count you first day of spotting as the beginning of your last period. An ultrasound likely needs to be done between 8 and 10 weeks gestation to give you an accurate due date. Spotting can sometimes be normal or it can indicate lower levels of progesterone. If you have any spotting now that you know you are pregnant, please call your Dr. Best wishes and congrats! For my own peace of mind, I would tell them you've had spotting and have no idea how far along you might be due to irregular periods.
An ultrasound is the way to go. The earlier the better, but no earlier than 6weeks. Ultrasounds are done all the time for women who have irregular periods and are unsure of how far along they are.
Good luck!!
My cycles are always like that and they count the first day of heavy flow.
