Spray on Tans

Has anyone ever tried the spray on tans at the tanning salons? I'm in a wedding in about 3 weeks and I don't want to go to the tanning beds but I don't want to use the self-tanners either. I'd like a little color in me since our dresses are partially white and I'm a pasty girl. Can anyone tell me their experiences with the spray on tans?

Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the great answers! Looks half are in and half are out when it comes to the spray ons. I think I'm going to go ahead and just grin and bear it and go to the tanning beds. I would prefer not to but I am afraid I'll turn out orangish and that probably would not be a good look during the wedding.:0) Thanks again!

It was great. A girl sprayed it on for me in Colorado. They are wonderful and much safer than a tanning bed. Go for it.

Last summer was the first time I used a spray on tan from a salon. There are 3 different levels & the first time I went with level 1. I didn't want it too dark and end up looking orange or blotchy for the wedding. But I followed all thier instructions and had a slight tan. So the next time I went in I went with level 2 and that was just right. I went a few days before because the first day you can look "dirty" and then the second day it toned down. they recomend to do a couple of applications. so if you went in a week before & then a 3 days before you would look good!

My mom runs a spray tanning business, therefor I get them all the time and you will love the outcome. They are an easy way to get some good color on your body. Just note that after you wait for about 4-6 hrs then shower, it will seem as though you are washing it all away, but you are not. Good Luck!

If you would prefer a spray on made from pure ingredients that is safe and beneficial, you might think about trying the Arbonne spray. That is what I prefer to use. I spray it on after a shower~doesn't turn orangy like most do.
If you would like some, feel free to email me.
Otherwise, good luck w/what you decide, and have a great time at the wedding!

I've had a couple and enjoy the color for the most part--this is what I learned: talk to the people at the salon first ask them if they can help you with any spots or dripping effects. They should have color remover as well as a small spray can to add where needed. I would let them know that you are going home to look over the color and will be back for adjustments. I found drips down one arm a couple days after and did not have a plan to return with my first time--hope this helps.

I have done the Mystic spray tan numerous times years ago. It is very simple. You stand in the booth and it is over in less than a minute. When it is done spraying you, you get out and completly towel yourself off. Just make sure you put the lotion they provide on your fingers, palms, elbows, knees, and feet. I suggest trying it before the wedding just to make sure you are happy with it. Good luck!

I have only experienced the spray tan once and will never do it again. It turned out very streaky and spotty even though I followed all of the "how to stand and change positions during the tan" directions. I would definitely suggest a good over the counter self tanner over the spray tan.

My husband and I went to Mexico last month and I tried a pray tan instead of a tanning bed. I was really nervous- but it turned out great! I did not go to an automated booth- I've seen some bad results! I went to Belle Amie Spa in Lake Elmo where they spray you. She has the only machine of its kind in the area, it's a really natural looking tan. The cost is $40.00- worth the cost (and drive?). Good luck!!

I had a spray on tan done about 3 days before my wedding. I would never do it again. It looked OK, but even after I followed all of the instructions and warnings from the lady who did the tan for me, I still had problems with the spray rubbing off. I had to get rid of the bra that I wore the day after the tan because it was stained orange and wouldn't wash out. I even noticed there was some staining on the sheets of my bed. I also had to get rid of a white T-shirt that I wore the morning of my wedding for the same reason. That was even after I had showered at least 3 times! I also discovered that there were a couple places on the inside of my wedding dress that had a little orange discoloration at the end of the night. A couple of my friends had used the same salon and the same lady and didn't have the problems I did. I think there was something with my skin. I would say if you want to try it do it as soon as possible so you know if you are going to have problems with it rubbing off. Especially if you are going to wear a light color.

I have seen some people who look really good and natural with it, on the other hand... It deffinatly didn't work for me!!! Day 1 was fine, but after that I broke out with whiteheads everywhere... arms, legs... all the places you wouldn't normally get a zit! Since when I bought the tan it was buy one get one free, I decided about 8 months later to try it again... same results! I will never do it again. I would reccomend trying it now... Instead of trying it the day before the wedding so you can see how your skin might react. On the plus side it is really quick, but some people with sensitive noses can smell it.

I prefer regular tanning beds, use a lotion with a bronzer... that should help speed up your tan, not to mention you get a shot of vitamin d! Just make sure you wash your hands good after applying.... some bronzers tend to be stronger than others!

Or use something like Jergen's Dailey Lotion with Bronzer... or whatever.. I like that stuff too.

(If you can't tell I'm a tanning fanatic) Good Luck.

I've used a spray tan once before my trip to Cancun last month and loved it. Cabana Tans have updated all of their Mystic Tan equipment and I heard they do a good job (they were in the middle of changing out the equipment which is why I had to go elsewhere). I went to Golden Tan in Burnsville and they did a great job. You apply special lotion that they provide around your knuckles, ankles, and places where the tanner might pool and turn your skin orange. And after the spray is finished you wipe off all the excess tanner. I experienced discolouration on my sheets and clothes but it washed out beautifully. Maybe the newer products are better?

I loved it and would definitely do it again. It lasts for a week so you could always try it now and have it reapplied a couple days before the wedding.

Good luck!

I have and the experience was OK. I didn't feel it was very even but that was several years ago so technology might have improved. I have used a lotion that slowly added a tan and liked it. There is also a make-up artist at Marc Daniel Salon that I know does an outstanding job but not sure...she might just do face and shoulders.

I've had a few and I loved them! I wouldn't do it the day of, but maybe 2 days prior and then wait at least 12 hours before showering. Depends on the spray tans available to you but I've used Mystic Tan and Versa Spa. Both great. I've always wanted to have someone spray it on for me, but thought it would be awkward.

I've tried them and love them but I know quite a few people that don't like them. Since you still have time I would try it out now and see what you if you like it. If you do, that "tan" will be gone by then so you can get it done again. Good luck!

I've had several, all before weddings. I liked them for the most part. One time I turned kind of orange...that was in a spray-on booth. I liked the results a lot more when a person handled the spray.

I loved my spray on tan!!! Not sure where exactly you are located, but I went to Maui Tan in Brookfield, the owner does the spraying herself.

Some things to remember, EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE!! It's best to do that beforehand and don't use any cream based soaps (ie, Dove) or lotion. I made the mistake of getting a pedicure about 20 mins afterwards and wish I hadn't, it's best to give yourself at least an hour after it gets sprayed on to let it get absorbed. Then you shower again to get the excess off ( DON'T EXFOLIATE this time!!!)

I did it the morning before the wedding I was in and it lasted over two weeks, cost less than the tanning package would have and I didn't have to spend a lot of time on it!

Good luck!

I had one very professionally done at a City Looks salon on the Thursday morning before my Saturday wedding. The girl wanted to do the medium and I said NO WAY. For us pasty white girls, go with the lightest look! It was supposed to stay on 24 hours and then I could shower but I showered that night and it had soaked in just fine.

Hi R.. I tried a Mystic Tan a couple of years ago and hated it. The first time I went, I followed the instructions carefully, but still ended up with dark orange stains around my underarms, on the tops of my hands, on the tops of my feet. I went back for another one just to even it out a bit, which worked fine. The part I really didn't like was that in about 3 days (while I was on vacation) the color started to wear off and I had a splotchy look all over. I actually let myself get a little bit sunburned, just to cover up the splotches. Definitely wouldn't do it again (at least in a spray booth). I've heard that the ones that are sprayed on by an actual person (if they know what they're doing) are good. Good luck!

I have had a couple of spray tans done at Ultra tan a few years ago. I have had great expereiinces with them. If you plan on having one done do not use any lotion or body oils prior to going in. It will cause your spray tan to run.
Good Luck!

Spray-on tans are awesome. For the darkest color, you should get one done and then about a week and a half later, go get another one. But, regardless of when you go, remember two things:
1) the tan maximizes within 24 hours, so it is best to go when you don't have to shower for 24 hours.
2) when you first get out, sometimes it can come off a bit on your clothes, so don't wear anything white.

If you use mystic tan, they have something called "hyper tan" that you can purchase (a lotion you put on first) that helps get a better tan.

I would recommend trying it out before the wedding. My cousin did it a few days before her wedding and it clogged her pores and made her itch terribly. She had little bumps all over her skin.
