Yes you have to be state licensed & cpr certified. State Farm has the cheapest daycare insurance. I run a daycare out of our home.
I want to start a daycare. As an owner do I have to be trained and licensed? I have someone that will run it.

Also check into insurance FIRST. Its very expensive because it's a huge liability so therefore a high premium. Good luck.
I don't know what the laws are in your state, but I think with any endeavor that requires training and licensing, it is always safer to have it yourself. If you are relying on someone else for this, and they decide to change careers, move, etc., you will be in a difficult position.
my friend ran a daycare out of her home for several years. She had to be licensed through the state (a requirement for all daycares in Michigan)..every adult in her household had to have a TB test every year..there had to be nutritional menus and a log book of meals served..1 adult per 6 children. She didn't have any childcare education. There had to be 2 fire escape routes from any are the children would be. The state can come in and inspect whenever.
good luck

Yes you do have to be license.. If you go on Michigan.gov website and then click on the department of human services..you will see the process to follow. Good luck
You definitely need to be licensed, and at least in MI that involves some home inspections and some 'development' type classes each year. I don't remember if you needed any to start as a home-based childcare. If you are in MI, you can start here http://www.michigan.gov/dhs/0,1607,7-###-###-####_49572--..., or if you have a local '4C' group, they often provide assistance as well (google your county and 4C).
