So Last christmas, i got my daughter a flip camera. She recently asked me if she can have her own youtube channel. I am kinda scared for the people on there. She just turned 13 on the 16th. Do you think she should wait for a channel?

What can I do next?

I think she needs to just email the videos privately.

A youtube channel allows any jerk out there to comment, and a lot of the comments I've seen are pretty crude. Some are on topic, but a few of them are frightening.

You might consider getting your daughter enrolled in a cybersafe course and have her just send videos to friends directly. That way, she doesn't have to rely on them to go to her channel and she keeps her business private. Remember, even if she thinks it is private, people can still send the link to others. I think TFPlano makes some very strong points too.

Why does she want it and what does she plan to
publish on it for everyone who has Internet access to see??

My daughter us 19 and if I google her I see all the cheers she and a co captain choreographed for the squad. Along with this, I see her English projects which were group films on the web for everyone.

This is scary to me and my child lives on her own right now.

I see no reason for a 13 yr old to be publishing on YouTube . If she does, please set privacy settings on high so it can be filtered.

What does she want to put on it? and does she want the whole world to see or just friends/family? you can tweak the settings.. it would depend what she wanted to put on the channel for me to decide..

My nephew has one, 14 yrs old. My son 14 and daughter 14 have one. They put silly videos on there. And like the other answer you can control who gets to see it and who doesn't.

For a youtube channel you can do it private where only people YOU invite can see what you post or you can do it public. My cousin does an online jewelry class and invited me to watch his video's so I could learn some skills.

It's entirely secure if it's set up that way. I'd make sure I monitored it every day so I'd know if she invited a "friend of a friend or something where she didn't know the person.

Some people have entire courses on there and the only way a person can find them is if they have an invitation from the owner.
