I stopped taking the birth control pill about 8 months ago, and since I stopped, I have been severe menstrual cramping and pain. I did not have this problem before going on the pill or while i was on it. Is this normal? What could cause this?

My doctor told me that because she forget certain testing before she prescribed the pill that she cannot prescribe me anymore. When i asked her about the cramping, she told me that i had gotten used to not having cramps while i was on the pill; she didnt listen when i told her i had never had bad cramps before

What can I do next?

Birth control pills are hormones. Your body got used to them, and then you took them away. Probably normal, but you really should see a doctor just in case...

I've heard that women take birth control to ease cramps, so your stopping taking them may be a connection.

I went on the pill due to debilitating cramps.l may likely never go off it until menopause, because my life was hell before and I don't want to experience those levels of pain again.

Talk to your doctor and see if you need to go back on or if there are other remedies to try. Your hormones may have changed, your body can change over time. I had my worst cramping about 3 years after having my son-- both before/during the onset of my cycle and during ovulation. My cramps were bad before having my son, but NOTHING like what I experienced later. Bodies change. If you aren't wanting to be on the pill, ask the doctor if something else might solve the problem for you.

Doctors actually prescribe birth control pills in order to prevent bad cramping and pain. Have you gone to the doctor to get checked in the past 8 months? Have you told the doctor that you didn't have the pain before you took the pills?

If you haven't, go get checked. Something in your body may have changed that you don't know about.

i don't understand what 'certain testing' your doctor is talking about. many many women are taking the pill because of severe cramping and periods. i did so myself. nor do i get why you have a doctor who 'doesn't listen.'
get a new doctor.
