Good morning everyone!
I need some suggestions. My daughter and I are going to have a mother/daughter day tomorrow. She is 14. We had planned to go for a trail ride at one of our State Parks here, but they are booked up, so now we cannot do that.
I have asked if she wanted to go and get pedi's/mani's and she is not really a girly girl, so that was out. I asked if she wanted to get massages and she doesnt want to do that either! Help!
We are going to have a nice lunch together, but i need some ideas on what we could do before that or after.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

Go see a movie before lunch, after the movie and lunch why not go to batting cages, mini golf, laser tag, or drive race cars.

How about renting a pontoon boat and hanging out at the lake? Maybe go to a movie and/or shopping? Or take a day trip out of town.

Trail riding with my mom? Wow, I'm jealous (I am the rider in the family; my mom is afraid of, and now allergic to, horses).

I agree with the Tripadvisor rec.

For our "girls days" I would help my mom pick out new flowers for her garden. We went to the nursery, pick out plants (irises). Stopped for ice cream on the way home, and then planted them. Today, I still see those iris blooming and it makes me smile.

check out tripadvisor website for your city - you'll find the typical to tourist attarctions that natives almost never go to. It can be a lot of fun to see your town/city from an outsiders' perspective.

Take a cue from your daughter's interests - does she like sports, music, animals? go that way. One year my daughter and I spent the day at a musuem and had lunch at the museum's fancy restaurant. It was nice for her to feel like a young adult and it was a lot of fun for me to spend time with her.

Shopping. Is there another state park you could go on. Or maybe bike ride trails. Maybe go see a movie together or stay in and rent some.

Mini golf (no skill required, lots of laughs), a museum (art, natural history, aquarium, historic site or house), hiking, picnic instead of lunch, canoeing or kayaking on a lake? Plant a vegetable or flower garden at home or at a community garden plot?

Have HER google some attractions or tourist things in your area? Sometimes we never take advantage of the things in our own backyard because we don't even know what they are.

If she doesn't want to do beauty treatments, that's kind of a good thing at her age - there's a lot of pressure to change one's appearance. Massages might make her uncomfortable, being mostly naked and being touched by someone else. Maybe a haircut would be fun and less threatening?

I think it's great you are doing a mom/daughter day! Really important in the teen years!

Sounds like you are going down the wrong route with her with thinking of the typical relaxing girly things.

THink about what SHE really enjoys doing and go with that.

Go to lunch then for a long walk somewhere nice...in the State Park. Take backpacks with drinks and some of her favorite snacks and throw in some MAD LIBS to do when you sit and rest..those are funny and get you laughing and joking around.

How about one of those paint your pottery type places...pick out an item like a pitcher or salad bowl and come up with a design together then paint it together. It will be fun,you will have time to talk and then you will have an item to use at home that reminds you of your day together. Then when she heads off to college or gets married that item will become hers.

I would steer away from a movie...do something that gets you talking and engaging in conversation with eachother.

Have a fabulous time together. That is great you do one on one time...14 is such an awkward phase...great to have Mommy bonding time!! Good job mama!!

I haven't read through the other answers so sorry if these are repeats. Is there a fun candy or ice cream shop nearby? You could let her pick something fun out and then take a walk together. Is there a place to do mini-golf or go-carts? Those things are fun at any age. Good luck and enjoy your date!

ASK HER, not us! LOL! Give her some responsibility for plnning or at least coming up with a list of preliminary ideas for these girls days - and go down the list crossing off as you go - Like a mom and daughter Bucket list!

This time you could still go to the state park, and just do a hike instead of riding....or take bikes and ride.

How fun! Do you have any farmer's markets you can go to? Other ideas are playing tennis, renting a tandem bike, baking cookies for an elderly neighbor, taking a cooking or photography class, creating an vegetable/herb garden with those hanging strawberry and tomato plants and then putting a bunch of herbs in pots, etc.

Strawberry picking is also a lot of fun, once they are fully in season!

Have a great day!
