Suggestions Needed (Watch for Husband)

I'm thinking about getting my husband a new (nice but still everyday) watch for Christmas this year but am not sure what type (or brand) I should be looking at. I bought him a Fossil a few years ago that held up pretty good but unfortunately it just broke. Are Fossil watches pretty decent or should I be looking at a different brand? I know he'd love a Movado but that's just way out of the budget and certainly not what I consider an everyday watch (he wears jeans and polo shirts to work).

Thanks =)

What can I do next?

I was given a Fossil watch for myself around 1992 - that makes it almost 20 years old and it's still going strong! You can't argue with that kind of value! When this one breaks, I'm getting another Fossil!!

My husband is very happy with his Citizen EcoDrive. Never needs batteries, keeps perfect time (and his job runs on Greenwich Mean) and has held up beautifully. I got it for under $200 on a Black Friday sale at a Macy's a few years ago. It even has a working bezel (the dial that turns like on a diver's watch). Most watches anymore just LOOK like they have that, and they don't. He uses it to keep track when he is on break at his job.

Citizen EchoDrive. I've been wearing the same watch for 7 years without replacing the battery. My husband's didn't last as long, but I love my Citizen. You can pick one up on sale at Carson or Kohls.

Well does he like the more minimalist type styles or the athletic sports watch type styles????
And would he like an athletic type watch band, or lizard or leather???

Then based on that, you can choose a brand/style better.
Movado is known for more minimalist sleek designs. But they also have athletic styles too.

Or try Costco for watches. They have name brands.

Or the Swatch Watch brand. It is affordable but good watches. My Husband had one.
They make all kinds of styles.

I know you said a Movado is out of your price range, but have you ever been to the Movado outlet store? I don't know if they have one in your area, but they do have one at the Lighthouse Mall in Michigan City. I think they have a Premium Outlet somewhere in your area, but I'm not positive. I bought my husband one a few years back and I paid probably half the price of a full price one. I also purchased him a Fossil watch from the outlet mall last year. He loves it. It's one of the ones that people are now wearing with the thick leather band and the interchangeable watch face. You can create your own depending on his style.
Hope this helped. Good luck and God bless.

ASK HIM!

My husband is a WATCH FREAK! Part of the fun is PICKING it out.

I have worked in fine jewerly and men are pickier than women! I know people love to see the "big unveiling" at Christmas but I'd try to see what he REALLY likes. Nothing worse than getting something from someone and you find out two years later they didn't like it but didn't want to hurt the giver's feelings and it's tucked away in a drawer.

I think a little "window shopping" sometime soon may be the BEST way to see what he really likes. The sooner the better, before the stores get crowded.

Good luck!

I like Fossil. My husband has one and likes it a lot. Macy's does have a good watch department for men too, including some Fossils as well, you might check that out. Also Swatch has fun and funky styles and you can find them at some department stores and definitely there is an online store.

Citizen EchoDrive!! My husband had one for about 8 years, and then the clasp broke--it was about $250-275ish. Trying to be a bit more upscale, last winter he bought an ESQ by Movado (Movado's lower end line), it was about $400. The clasp only lasted 9 months, and ESQ doesn't offer ANY warranty on the band--only on the actual working part of the watch.

Back to Citizen EchoDrive we go!! No batteries is such a wonderful thing, and they are very sharp looking--can be both formal and for a more casual workplace.

I would look up Fossil website to see if they have a guarantee.
If not, you could either buy another one of those (since he liked it) or
look into the brand Citizen to see if you could find a style he likes.
