I have had my Vita-Mix for almost 10 years! I absolutely love it, even though I have accepted that I will never use it's full potential, it is just that good! I cannot recommend it enough.
Hi Moms,
Does anyone have any advice on getting a great superblender to make green smoothies? I am undecided on either Blendtec or Vitamix 5200 model? Please advice.

Love green smoothies! I use my moms Vitamix which is at least 15 yeras old and it works just fine (I'm praying it lasts another 15 as I'm not sure I'll be able to afford to replace it!) I know you can get a bit of a deal on them when Costco has them (and there is always someone doing a demo so you can taste stuff).
Enjoy!
I don't have personal experience with either of these blenders, but if you make it to the State Fair of Texas there are several locations that have demos of the Vitamix, and you may be able to get special "state fair" pricing.
While I'd LOVE to have the Vitamix, having gone to the website and watched the various YouTube demos and been very impressed, the cost is pretty steep, so I've held off. I found one much cheaper that I also love. It's a Hamilton-Beech immersion blender that only costs $20 at Walmart (they don't carry it at Target), and I like it so much I have given it as a gift to about 6 or 8 loved ones now. It's very user-friendly, easy to clean, very effective. They say it won't do ice, but if you want to cool down your smoothie mixture, you can throw in a few ice cubes and it handles them very well. The Star Telegram did one of those Consumer Reports-type test sequences on a bunch of possibilities, expensive to inexpensive, and this one won hands-down, even over the hundred-dollar ones they tested it.
My husband makes a large (about 32 oz) smoothie every morning using frozen fruit. Frozen fruit is much harder on blenders. We have broken 4 blender over the years. We decided to spend the money on a Vitamix at Costco. It is the best! We have had it for over 4 years now and love it. It is a little harder to clean than the demo shows, but my husband puts all sorts of powders in it. You do need to scrub the extra powder off...it no harder than cleaning a plate. I can't say enough good things about this blender. I make "healthy" ice cream for the girls using peaches, bananas, and cabbage.
I don't know about these. I can tell you we have been through many blenders. We just bought one at Sam's......an Oster.....that is finally a really great blender. Still loudish, but we make smoothies and it takes care of ice, no problem. It wasn't that expensive. It's the one with pre-programmed settings for frozen drinks and food chop.
good luck. If you buy one of these other models and LOVE it I would love to hear about it. We drink protein drinks and meal shakes daily at my house. I am a Shaklee Independent Distributor and we work towards health every day. Blenders are an integral part of our life. LOL!
I have no experience with a Blendtec, but we have the Vitamix 5200. I love it!! We use it everyday. I make green smoothies with it. The Vitamix makes them very smooth. I have an adult family member who refuses to eat anything green. I made a green smoothie, and this relative had no idea that they were consuming spinach - and I never bothered to tell them. :) Vitamix blends things so well. I highly reccomend them, plus they have a great warranty - not that I have ever needed to use it.
We drink 2-3 green smoothies a day and use a regular blender for 40.00. I'd like a Vitamix some day but am waiting until I sell enough to buy one on ebay. Just use a regular blender.
We have a Blendtec and really like it. I haven't made smoothies in it, but it worked great making my daughter's baby food when she was younger.
